Im quite rapidly falling out of love with my lancer, a mixture of road noise, rattles, quality of finish ect is sending me over the edge.

Ive been looking at BMW 120i's and Honda Civic type R's. Has anyone driven either? What were your thoughts?

Every car has its good and bad points.

A couple of boxes of dynamat will fix the road noise and most of the rattles.

I think both are ugly, especially the bmw.
Theres one at the casino here and every time I see it I think to myself 'if I won that I'd sell it'.

They aren't very comparable cars anyway other than being small, what are you after?

A small fun car that you can also squeeze 5 people in occasionally?

Sad to see you go buddy, as troy has said, chop a few extra hundred into the Lancer to fix up the rattles.

As for the quality of finish, its what you get for that price of car.

Best of luck with your new purchase if you do choose to go ahead with it, Try joining up on a few different forums and talk to people who have to live with the car every day and compare it to the lancer.

I was recently thinking of selling and changing to either a BA or BF XR6, but i decided against it because the lancer was more than enough car for me and I couldnt bring myself to get rid of my baby.

Basically im looking for something smaller, I dont even need 4 seats two would be fine. something alittle punchier would be nice but equal power would be okay (thus why im leaning more towards the civic)

As for the Km's thing, mate its not only the KM aspect on the car, some of the interior pieces just simply dont fit properly! Admittedly buying the car was a mistake and one I will pay the price for, but I needed a car quickly and there were few options available at the time

The Civic Type-R isn't a really good car , most people i know eventually sell theirs after a short while of ownership. If you don't mind a small car , why not a second hand 350z ? much better interior , much more KW and a very good car for aftermarket fun

Sad to see you go if you do decide to leave. I have to say I personally I didn't mind the Civic type R its a really nice car. Top Gear also gave it a raging review. But when it came down to it I liked the lancer better. (Price was also another thing to) Cars are a very personal thing so take your time with it and check forums, websites, ask reviews from the people who own them. They will tell you whats good, whats bad and such.

Yes, Ive always worked since age 12 and have always been restrictive on what I spend.

To my knowledge the 350z comes under the 6 cylinder high power restriction, Ill double check the RTA exemptions list now


*EDIT* Yep definitely not allowed a 350/370 or any of the other imports using the same engine, or any of the older M series, or any 1994+ porsche

why not a lotus Elise 1.6L N/A 2 door, roadster buckets of fun, cheap on fuel, cheap to insure(maybe), cheap to register. 2006 version is only around 45-50,000 and they are only 100 something KW so under any power restrictions

Why not a Polo GTI or a used MK5 Golf? Smaller than a Lancer but around the same power... Your not going to find much. Maybe an MG ZR, very rare and they are pretty much the UK version of a Proton Satria GTi. If you think the build quality of the Lancer is questionable then maybe not look at anything outside of Germany. Or a Volvo C30??

On the Lotus, if he is had enough of the road noise of the Lancer, the Elise will send him to a hearing specialist to get a hearing aid. Those cars arent made for cushy drives. Build quality the Lancer will shit all over it. You dont spend a long time in a Lotus; just enough to get around the track a few times

Same here im looking at getting the Polo GTi this year as the lancers interior is falling apart and the car is just to big for me now.

If you want one you better order it now and wait at least 3 months for it to come, or be prepared to hunt one down from interstate. Great car minus the rattle it has ( known issue ).

@tjoz - He can't have a turbo... stupid NSW P Plater laws...

IMO the MKV VW R32 Golf is a great P Plater car.. AWD V6 in a little hatch ready for a massive stereo... what more could young boy need? Ohhh an exhaust note to die for... well lucky it has that too.

How long until you are off your P's? If it isn't too long, then wait and choose a car you actually want without restrictions.

At least that's what I would do, espcially if I had the cash for a really good car (and by then you could afford an even better one! )
