Allen Millyard's 5 litre V-twin

Postby Mars1811 » Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:05 am

Have any of you seen the videos by Allen Millyard about how he made his 5-litre V twin motorcycle?
He's practically just a mad scientist, his videos are very entertaining to watch.

Here's a video of it running:
https://youtu.be/nnrzZQVtkeM

And here's how he made it:
Part 1:
https://youtu.be/I-Xr1bmbZ_s
Part 2:
https://youtu.be/XUYC0zWhNio

I love the part where he decides to make his own carburettors on a whim.

Personally I would rather a Boss Hoss V8 or an Aussie Drysdale V8
However
If I could get a road legal unit I would have a radial engine off an aeroplane driven motor cycle
Or
Preferably a jet or rocket Power drag bike
However
For practicality, the Boss Hoss wins for me hands down

Funnily enough, the engine he used in that bike was just 2 cylinders from a Rolls Royce radial aero engine.
Also if you wanted more cylinders, he also took the V10 from a Viper and built a motorbike around that:

As for jet bikes, I'd kill for a ride on the Y2K some day :D

Have a look at the Norton F1 Rotary and it's history and why they banned it in racing.
It was a pretty incredible bike for sure

Technically , I don't think the Y2K was a , "Jet bike" , as such?
It was a helicopter Gas Turbine engine.
Don't get me wrong , I'd love to own one just for the ultra cool factor.

Well, it used a jet engine to generate the power needed to turn the wheel.
It didn't use the velocity of the exhaust to force the car forwards, but used it to spin a series of blades that drove the wheel.
Just like a helicopter or a turboprop engine.

The Y2K uses a 2 speed gearbox and a chain and sprocket set up for drive/propulsion.

That, and the Hunwick Hallam V-Twin. I wish they'd both managed to make it into some sort of production run, rather than (effectively) being prototypes that didn't go very far.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit the motorcycle museum on highway one just to the north of Sydney, you will enjoy that , there is all kinds of goodies in there
