Brake Package Replacement for Aspire - Rotors/Callipers/Pads

Postby anghel132 » Mon Mar 18, 2013 12:04 pm

I'm considering doing a Brake Package Replacement for Aspire - Rotors/Callipers/Pads but not sure what I should get.. I don't see myself going onto a track anytime soon and considering my racecar taste, go-kart budget I'd be buying bits and pieces slowly over the years.

Brakes I want to do first, mainly because I'm still getting over paranoia over my last crash would could've been avoided with better brakes in my last car..

So MY2012 Aspire, 18" Rims.. what should I go for? What choices do I have.. Brembo? K-Sport? Bigger brake kit?

If you want something on a budget try to find a set of Ralliart front brakes and put them on. Pair them with a good set og rotors and pads and they will be heaps better than the Aspire ones.

I don't think anyone makes an actual BBK for the NA lancers

Ooh I could do that, though am still willing to save up a bit more though - what about K-Sport 6 or 8 pistons? Are they viable options for front and back replacements, do you think?

Are you talking about something like this? Realy unecessary unless your driving flat out everywhere. Just get some DBA rotors, 550degree pads, braided lines and chang up to dot 4 fluid. Fronts do 85% of the work so you might change the rear pads but I wouldn't spend millions. A good upgrade without changing calipers will cost about 600. Finding Ralliart calipers, well, I looked for a year and didn't find any

Aspire has the same brakes as a VRX.

What was your last car? Have you ever done a brake test in your CJ? They're pretty good :P

Something like that yeah - like I said planning to go track, but not in the very near future, so something I could do now that I could use then?

Was considering just a pad/rotor/line set - I wouldn't need to change the brakes/calipers for an upgrade like you mentioned, would I?

No, same caliper, I thought you said no track, sorry. If you have the money and the know how to go bigger for the brakes just remember that only certain wheels will allow it. Guard rolling etc may be necessary to allow the depth of wheel to accomodate larger calipers and at lrat 18's for rotor diameter. Remeber that the more pistons in a caliper, the more there is to go wrong. Back in my days in the motor trade, 100 years ago, if one piston failed the whole setup failed. Don't know if this is still true

Sorry mate, not any time soon but eventually is what I meant - but cheers for that info.

What are the standard disc sizes for the Aspire/VRX (I'm assuming they're identical - though I'm not sure?). I may go for the KSports but in the same size or close if I REALLY can't find an RA set

According to this the same rotor as a NA lancer which would be 272 mm I think. Specs will be in your manual

VRX and Aspire are 294mm Rotors and will fit directly onto all Lancer ES, SX, VR, models which have the smaller 276mm Rotors.

There is a set of RA brakes (calipers, rotors, pads and line) for sale on EvoM. The guy wants $250 for them
