Just to clarify, the Lancer CVT was designed more for economy than performance. It takes time to accelerate from rest, so a properly launched manual will beat it to 100.

The SST is a completely different story though.

Drove my first manual Lancer in 2004 when the wife bought a new CH. I was impressed with the light clutch and shift quality (I'm the designated driver, she is the designated nag . . . err navigator - right down to when to change lanes and use the indicator. ) :x

Recently bought a 2011 Lancer ES manual, wife did anyway, clutch is even lighter and shift even better.

I guess CVTs are good for people with handicaps - no left leg for instance - or have poor coordination. Unless my left leg drops off, or I develop Parkinson's manuals for us. CVT is no competitiion.

if you take off tractipon control and put the lancer around the 4k rpm mark(different for everyone) and dump it then you should get a mean take off.....for a 4cyl NA

CVT was purely designed for economy

manual also has far greater tuning capabilities

4k rpm launch with acs turned off Ur going to get 2 things.
1) massive amounts of wheel hop
Or
2) smoke up the street
So if say do it with the acs turned on

Honestly man, I was on in the same boat when I bought my car, always driven Auto because that's what was available.. I ended up buying manual and am so so happy I did, you will love the manual..

I hear alot of people complaining about the CVT but I don't think I've heard a single complaint about the lancer's MT

Whilst we still have the option of a manual you have to go with a MT.

I'm going to put in a word here for the level headed:

If you drive PEAK HOUR bumper to bumper traffic, go CVT.
If you do free driving, hardly ever in jams, go manual.
