Unfortunately it is not your chassis to share, and the average joe wouldn't even know it is based on the Lancer.

The money that Proton pay Mitsu would most likely help with R&D etc. Proton would be a very big customer.

Because putting a new body one would require a totally separate assembly line with different tooling and alot of cost. The press moulds used to create the side panels of cars runs into several million dollars each, then you have the r&d of creating them. Also if Mitsu did change the body panels Proton would be required to recrash test the car as the different shape of panels have huge implications to how a car preforms in a crash.

in conclusion to cost to slap a few new bumpers on and piss off some lancer owners, probably $100,000 at most including all the tooling and design. Cost to totally change the look of the car so it does not resemble a CJ lancer at all, probably tens of millions of dollars for R&D tooling crash testing prototyping and so on.

Thanks for the insights guys. I guess that's just the price crisis-struck Mitsu had to pay to develop a great car.

Exactly :)

In some cases selling by licence to a corporate partner could pay all their R&D!!

I like the look of this car looks way better than the EVO. There is a photo about half way down the page at this link
