Wheel Speed Sensor - WTF

Seriously bad luck...was driving along the freeway and hit a rock (or something) that I didn't see. Anyway, somehow along the way, it managed to skip under my rear and slice the wheel sensor connector cable...

Took into the dealer, warranty guy is away till Wednesday but don't know what my chances are... :S as there's no actual faults with parts... *sigh*

Unlikely a warranty claim. And it should take more than a rock to cut that! Must've been one of those fancy wire-cutting rocks

Was it you that had the "Service Required" light come on recently and I was advising you? If so, this is your problem

yeah... it was this. it was quite a bump, so it wasn't a small rock. anyway, not looking forward to footing the bill. :S

It can be DIY if you wanted...

From memory there is a p[lug inside the rear boot trim or under the seat then the wire runs through a grommet and into the wheel well.

just pulled off the wheel to have a look at where the cable goes... how easy do you think it'd be to do?

I don't mind getting the part through my dealer, they've been pretty good to me. but yeah, if I can save on labour...

It would not be very hard to do. The connection is behind the rear boot trim (just looked it up in the workshop manual.

You need to remove the rear boot trim on the side you need to replace. Then unclip the harness and remove the grommet and pass the cable out. And on the hub assembly there is a couple of nuts to undo and a clip for the wiring and it all comes out.

Would only take the dealer 30 mins to do, but they'd charge 1.5hours labour no doubt

I would have thought wiring should be protected from rocks.
If it is in the open then should be warranty.
If something has broken on the car from normal driving should be covered by warranty.
Make your dealer get mitsibishi to pay for it.

The wiring is protected, it's clipped to the suspension strut and the wires are double insulated... hence why I said a very special rock

they should use brass shielded like we do lol. that stuff hard to cut. even with cutters.

Mitsubishi cannot warrant WHAT we do with cars, nor crystal ball each and everyone's driving...

There is little chance of getting this done under warranty..

But, looks to me like a very, very simple fix...
