Performing oil change, quantity and location of sump plug?

Postby aznlancer08 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 1:28 pm

Car approaching the 40,000km mark, i do a change every 5000-7500km's. two questions:

1. where abouts is the oil drain sump plug?
2. how much engine oil does a CJ need?

any help appreciated!

Gday Tony
After you jack up your car and place stands under it,there is a splash tray you need to remove (4 bolts),then you will see a hex headed bolt (approx 17mm) towards the front of the engine on the sump
When you replace this plug you will need a new washer for the plug as well as 5 Litres of oil of your choice and a new filter
Pretty easy to do mate
Good luck - Chris.

Mitza, thanks for your helpful reply.

With the new washer is this a specific part that has to be purchased from Mitsubishi?

Yeah you can buy the sump plug washer from Mitsubishi.

The washers can be bought at any automotive shop.

They are just a cheap copper washer that squashes between the sump and the head of the bolt. They can be reused and normally do not leak afterwards.

It is safer to replace. They often come in those little packs with 3 washers in the pack. They are on the rotating stand with bolts, nuts, plastic clips etc.

Recpo should have the washer...

And the oil required is not 5L MiztaB!!! (unless you were talking the bottle size)

The engine oil fill is only 4.3L. It is written on page 9-14 of your car handbook.

Yes mate I know but you need a 5 Litre for the extra .3 otherwise 4 Litres would suffice = Obvious I would have thought!!

I just thought it would need to be clarified based on the original question.
