JaCe wrote:I guess you get what you pay for... surprised that you cheaped out on headunit when you are spending so much on components for your audio setup! The other thing I'd be concerned about is switching tracks/pushing the screen and not snapping/damaging the connector port. I personally would've left the cable and made a mount because that way there is minimal risk of damaging the connection port. (apologies for lack of terminology here; this is based on my experience with the Dension Ice Link Plus kit in my Civic which came mounted but then I swapped it for the iPod cable instead)

I only had to buy the other components after I bought the Head unit mate. $700 isn't exactly loose change either. And dont worry, ill look after the connection port, and if it breaks....hey ill buy a new deck. No biggy!

That looks like it could get snapped off under hard cornering... Costly repair if it's stuck in the bottom of the iPhone

If you can get it mounted securely, it'd be awesome!

Well I took her out this morning boys and gave her absolute hell, full acceleration heavy breaking, ASC light flashing around corners and she still sitting pretty there with no probs.

The I phone actually rests on the plastic shroud around the Gear shift for breaking balance and the connector is on enough of an angle backward to not put much strain on the connector. I must admit to, for "cheap" crap the connector is pretty strong.

Yeh I think in longer run you may end up switching to a cradle of some sort which holds it in tight, with a connector (on a cable) which is loose underneath. That way if it falls, the cradle holds it in rather than placing stress on the connector port which would be very expensive to repair.

I'd def be worried bout the ipod/iphone slot at the bottom. Any movement and it can damage. They are very very fragile.

I did a dock application to hold the ipod as well

U can pick up the 'holder' that is standard in the VRX for $5 at the wreakers.

Hmm... I suppose the other end would typically be a USB? Carputer perhaps? :)

Yeah Ive taken on board the comments about the connector breaking so I made a mount out of a cheap phone holder from super cheap. Much better now, its not going any where. Will post pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the help boys ;-)

iPod docks have 2 Outputs.

---3.5mm Headphone Output
&
---iPod -> USB Connector

If u have a head unit that supports iPod just use the iPod Cable.
I used the iPod cable for charging the iPod.
Then i connected the 3.5mm headphone to the back of my AUX input.

Looking good, i think it is much safer using a mount so it doesnt move like you have now done.

I can not say how yours connects, my Kenwood HU has a special cable that Adrian found for me.... I now have full video/audio control from the HU touch screen.. which is a bonus, let me tell you!

Mine hooks up to the back of my deck using what looks like an S-Video Lead or similar. Its probably a one of lead that no one else makes knowing this unit ;-)

I stuck my ipod connection in the cup holder compartment. The installer wanted to put it in the glovebox! It was useful until work gave me a blackberry. So now I have to put all my songs on a DVD.

Matt - any chance you can elaborate on the switch moving process? I think moving the AWC switch next to the ASC switch is a better use of space.
