One dead, another injured after police chase in Bayswater

Postby ofey » Sun Dec 13, 2009 8:46 am

A SHORT police pursuit ended in tragedy this morning when a man was killed in Bayswater.

A police spokesman said the local traffic management unit went to investigate reports of a stolen Ford in the area and spotted the vehicle on Scoresby Rd at Power Rd at about 2.40am.

...

The stolen car drove through a red light into the intersection of Bayswater and Canterbury roads and collided with a Mitsubishi Lancer.

From what I saw on the telley news, apparently the Lancer was a CJ with moded wheels.

Hope the driver is alright... .

Yeah saw this on Sunrise this morning, they mentioned stolen car collided with a Lancer & flashed to it quickly (black sedan) but couldn't make out what model it was.

Looked pretty beat up, wonder if its anyone we know around here?

The driver of the Lancer, a 23-year-old Donvale woman, was taken to the Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.

As dreadful as this story is, it would be a lot worse if the person that died was in the neutral car going through the intersection. There is nothing worse than someone in the wrong place at the wrong time being killed and the perpetrator ending up with no scratches on them. Hope the Lancer driver will be ok.

It sucks when stuff like this happens, especially when the other victim is innocent, the worst part is that it CAN happen to anyone at anytime, all it takes is one dickhead to do something wrong.

I hope the Lancer driver is okay and condolences to the family of the deceased.

It seems the lancer is the safer car, It says the lancer driver, 23 year old lady was in a stable condition, one occupant in the ford died and the other seriously injured, I'm willing to bet it was the driver of the ford who lived.
That lady will remember that for decades to come. I feel sorry for her

The black Lancer was actually a CH but still, it's grave injustice for the lady driver, doing everything right only to be punished by others' irresponsible actions. What was the Ford guy thinking?

I feel for the victim, must have been in great shock as well.

Glad it didn't go as far as paying her own life. This is a really serious issue now. Many things have got to change, from training to discipline and so on. We focus too much on alcohol and speeding by the whisker and failing to address matters that can indeed endanger others.

driver killed was a 16yo joyrider.
a fellow member of opelaus said it happened out front of his work.
as i said on there, very tragic loss of a young life, but it is due to his own stupid fault.
now an innocent member of the public has to live with her injuries due to no fault of her own.
