Used car - servicing and warranty Question

Postby milobob » Sat Sep 05, 2009 6:47 pm

Hello all!

I'm tossing up between a USED VR lancer or a NEW VR Lancer (09, MY09). Before I weigh up the how much a new car is actually worth, I need to know a few things.

The used car I'm considering has been serviced at a mechanic. He has stamped the logbook but I'm not sure if he is certified. If he is indeed certified (which I assume from his stamp), warranty should not be void? How would I find out if he is a certified mechanic which mitsubishi recognises?

I know the roadside assistance will cease ($60 a year) and so will the 10 year drivetrain.

There is nothing better than buying a brand new car. You don't have to worry about what the previous owner has done to it. If the logbook has been filled out correctly then the warranty is intact.

Thing you gotta remember when buying a new car is that as soon as you jump in and drive it out of the lot, you've already lost 5-7 grand on the car depending on what trim etc. I was fortunate and didnt have to pay for my CJ as it was apart of my inheritance, but when i thought about it, that 5-7 grand could of gone to mods for it. But i just had a big head and wanted a 'brand new' car. Id just say find a nice used VR with low km's and full service history and pick it up. Its highly unlikley you will pick up a dud, and even if worse comes to worse, you have your used car warranty there to back you up

The warranty will not be void, as long as the service book has been filled out, and the services performed correctly (ie everything done that needs to be done.)

You can even service it yourself, as I have done always done, and the warranty can still remain in tact. I bought a Mitsubishi Mirage brand new in 2004, and I did all the servicing on that, and when it had a few minor problems, they honoured the warranty for it.

And Speedie is right, there is nothing like the feeling of a brand new car, and I can tell you the feeling is even better when the car hasn't even sat around at a dealership being sat in. mine was straight off the boat to me! :D

Thanks all. Currently being offered excellent deals from various dealers on a 08/09 compliance VR manual. The price difference between this and a used car is so small that I may end up buying brand new. As we intend to keep the car for a along time (the 10 yr warranty is good for this)

If you're on the southside, go down to Zupps Mitsubishi at Capalaba. Ask to see Geoff and tell him Adrian sent you and you want to be looked after. He is a great salesman and I'm more than happy to recommend him to anybody.

Good luck!
