Let's face, they want us to speed. They want more and more money and putting more cameras is the best way to earn leveraged income. If they really didn't want us to go over the limit, then we should see speed checks wherever we go. We hardly spot any and some don't even work. Speed checks should be twice as many as cameras, so as to warn us before the fine.

There are speed checks on the F3 between Sydney and the Central Coast where they are doing roadworks. The silly thing is that they dont work... I have seen cars go through faster than me and yet the signs say they are doing under the speed limit!!

What is the point if they arent even accurate?

You can't keep your eyes on the speedometer all the time. Each split second you're not looking at the road is a potential hazard. You could miss an animal, or worse, a small kid. This initiated the heads-up display, but these are only available in luxury cars.

I do it rather differently. I use cruise control to control my speed.

it controls your acceleration only... cruise control doesn't work downhill unfortunately... :-(

Slightly off topic but similar - did everyone know that (in vic at least) they've made new rules regarding 'right hand lanes' ?

I got pulled over on the freeway once for 'not driving as far left as practicable' - was PISSED cos I didn't realise it was LAW, just knew u got recommended to at the start of every freeway.

But now they've introduced the same 'keep left' laws on ALL roads over (from memory) 70kph - so unless you're:
*Overtaking
*In congested traffic
*About to initiate a right-hand turn
You have to stay in the left lane at all times, by law...
Trust me, a LOT of ppl don't know this one - I kinda wish they did sometimes cos right lanes being a bit more free would help when ur between speed cameras ;-)

That rule has been in force in NSW for as long as I could remember. I am not too sure what speed it kicks in at.

I knew about that left lane thing, but honestly, ive never really abided by that, because if your in the left hand lane during non peak hour traffic and you turn onto the freeway and you all stick in the left hand lane, you've got a group of cars traveling in a line and it takes a split second for someone to slam on the brakes for whatever reason and that small group of cars could end up causing a major thing. If you have them across both lanes and more spread apart its less likely that they will get involved. For the people behind that person who slammed on the brakes, their first reaction will be to slam on the brakes and swerve (depending on the situation).

Honestly, i think only pr*** cops who are having a bad day enforce that rule. And seriously how can they define "Congested" traffic.

Ah, im over my rant :P

Fact is you're meant to keep a safe distance at all times anyways... if that means u have to slow down cos ur up someone's a** well u have to... and the right lane is meant to be kept open for emergency vehicles (says the nice officer *cough choke* who booked me...)

^^ Thats true, but some people dont have the same reactions as the person behind them or in front of them, could have some oldie behind you and might not be able to react as fast as us "Young People" :D

For a mobile one, about 5 days tops. Unless the cop manning it procrastinates.

For a fixed camera, No fixed time since we don't know when they last checked the camera. In most cases it's fortnightly that they check the cameras. So 3 weeks tops?
