First time I've heard of insurer replacing with a like / equivalent model??
From GIO....(think similar with NRMA and others)
If you are the first registered owner of a car, 4WD, utility or van up to 2 tonnes carrying capacity, you can choose to accept a new replacement vehicle of the same make, model and series if:
your vehicle is a total loss because of an event that occurred within 2 years of the date your vehicle was first registered and
a vehicle of the same make, model and series is available within Australia and
anyone who provided finance for your vehicle agrees in writing.
We will also pay all on-road costs and your insurance policy will continue to its expiry date if we agree to continue to insure you.
Fairly common....... My mate had XR6T BF series one written off after 2 months (parked & hit by drunk, unlicenced driver at 5am). Replaced with NEW series 2..with a couple of extras not on original (park sensors, etc). NRMA did it, but he needed to re-start new insurance policy (unlike GIO above)
