So at the request of a family member after some home videos from years ago we are finally getting them transferred to mp4. Dug out the VCR and surprisingly it still works after maybe a decade of not being used. Luckily I had not had it plugged in so that might have helped.
Anyway checked online and the USB to RCA converters are pretty cheap and the software is not much more, less than $100 for the lot.
Any advice on brands for hardware and software to use.
BTW I have an iMac so it needs to me MacOS compatable.

Re: VHS to digital?
I went down this road some years ago, I did it on a windoze based OS .having said that, there is a few places left around that will do the Conversion for you.
Have you spoken to any of the shops who do it?

Re: VHS to digital?
Yeh they want some $25 per tape if its over 2h long, we might need them for some tapes that have issues. But we have a lot of tapes.
I figure with a currently working VCR and the right hardware we'd give it a go.
I was thinking of something like this...
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Video-Grabb ... Sw~jJcjt6F
Not expensive so IMHO worth a go.
We also have Video8 and mini DV tapes we can't access, not had a camera for them for years.
So we've sent off about 20 tapes at about $15 each to get them converted.
