Have been searching for days here and YouTube and finding conflicting advice for my 2009 Lancer vr. Every thread seems like someone figured it out but didn't post the answer. Do I need to take the whole front door panel off to undo screws, or is the silver strip actually just held on by clips.
If I need to take the door panel off what's the easiest way to do so? I've undone the 3 screws and tried pulling from the top, bottom, near the speaker and the speaker up near the window too and all I managed to do was separate the top and bottom part of the door slightly (hassle). I've done every other piece of trim in the car but the doors are driving me mad. I even tried wrapping it without taking them out and very slowly and painfully cutting around and trying to tuck in, but it was no good.

What door panel you talking of?
You talking of the door card made of plastic on the door that hides the speaker and rest of it behind the door?
On the Aussie ones there is a few screws to come off for the driver's door. There is a YouTube video or two that shows it.
From memory there is two plastic covers that pop off with a flat blade screw driver. One behind the door handle , one behind the door solder door opener . There is also a screw on the outer most cover up the top , not more then about 20 cm below the window line. So three screws in total.
It will pop off
It will take a bit of muscle to get it off.
Do it gently.
Once you pop it off have a look behind it
There is some wires behind it to be unclipped
Depending on the door depends on the wires
There is plugs for windows as a minimum.
They are a push plug , there's a clip that pushes inward while wiggle the plug out
Note I said wiggle the plug , not the wires
Pull it by the wires and your heading for disaster
There is also two metal rods with platci coat that attach to the door unlocking mechanism
Grab a photo of that before you remove them
It will show how they are sitting and at what depth they are sitting
Be very careful and very gentle pop them off
Do not break the clips
Do that and your either off to the wrecking yard to get some or try and buy something online somewhere
Once you have the door card of you can go nuts and replace speakers or what ever tickles your fancy
Enjoy

Re: Silver door trim - how to get off to paint/wrap
But what about the Silver door trim on the front driver/passenger door, that's what I'm wanting to get out.

I think they are held on with some small screws from the inside, so the door trim needs to come off first.

Aha ha
I think I know the ones your talking of
The are the ones that go the full length of the door card and are about one inch wide?
I'm confident Craig was correct
Its been ages since I pulled one out
There is a few little plastic clips on it and if your not careful you will break those off
The clips are towards the front of the door
It's best to remove the door card as stated
Then lay it on some carpet or a few towels to not damage it
Flip the door card over and there is a number of screws. On the back
Take a photo of it and start pulling some out near the strip
There is not many to remove
The door card itseld will split in half just above the door handle
That split is where the sliver plastic strip attached to
Take lots of photos as you go so you can remember how it goes back together
Make note of the screws as well cos they are not all the same size or colour either
You can do this
We have faith and confidence in you

Re: Silver door trim - how to get off to paint/wrap
Thanks for the advice, managed to get it all done today. I'll post here just for future people searching, it is not held on by any screws in a 2009 vr, HOWEVER! I did have to undo 1 screw after taking the door panel off to get enough grip and leverage to clip the silver panel back in.
Thank you all so much for the advice on removing the door panel, came in handy after all.
