2011 Lancer wont start

Postby JDM_DAN » Mon May 21, 2018 12:50 pm

Alright guys need some help. Car died last week, had battery tested, it was stuffed so got new one. Yesterday it started and then spluttered and died. Now it won't start again but this time it cranks over and wants to start but just doesn't. So it's not a battery issue. Someone on another forum recommended to check if fuel comes out after the fuel pressure reg so I will do that after work. What else can I check? Have checked all hoses in the engine bay for splits or anything and can't see anything. There is also a buzzing sound coming from a black box at the front of the engine when the ignition is in the ON position. I will try and post a video when I work out how.

If it’s making a whining noise when you crank it might be your alternator; I’ve had this issue before, mitsubishi ended up fixing it in a week or so
We are all in it for the fun!

check spark plugs...if your spark plugs are wet, dry them and wait for the fuel in the cylinder to evaporate, try starting once normally then start the car with the accelerator pedal to the floor.
I found it is super easy to flood these engines when your battery is on its way out. as your not getting a reliable ignition spark but plenty of fuel being dumped.

also double check that you have not lost the immobilizer chip which is inside the key fob. otherwise try the spare key.

But generally the following is your troubleshooting procedure.
Check for spark.
Check fuel is being delivered.

If all 4 spark plugs are a go and adequate fuel is being delivered into the cylinders then you have a compression issue which is bad news...
K+N drop in
RA intake
SS 4-2-1 Headers
Whiteline Strut Brace
Whiteline Rear Sway Bar
SuperPro Polyurethane Bushings
Paddle Shifters

A bit late but but check exhaust gas return valve! EGR valve could be called EGR solenoid.

Hey Dan,

Did you find out what the problem was? My '09 VRX has just done something very similar.

Cheers,
V

For people with the same problem in the future - in my case the timing chain had stretched enough that none of the timing stuff lined up.

Got the chain, tensioner, tensioner slipper replaced and it's as good as new. :-)

Just on 235,000km and all up (including the tow to the mechanics) $1400. Mechanic said it was more than likely the original chain, too.
