I don't know when I discovered I had a CJ Lancer, most likely from Wikipedia which in turn lead me to Club CJ via google hits. Mitsubishi Motors Australia (MMA) don't seem to use the CJ designation much, it's not on my receipt, in the service manual or any genuine accessory leaflets, not used in advertising brochures, part of the VIN or really anywhere I could find it easily (Some parts places like Supercheap Auto use CJ but others such as Jolly's U Pull It use CX/CY).
CJ is MMAs designation for the 2008-2018 Lancer range (other countries differ) but the factories use CX (Sportback), CY (Sedan) and CZ (Evolution) (Interesting that they used last 3 letters of alphabet, almost like they knew from the outset this would be last model). I feel that could be a factor in people overlooking the club.
Is it worth considering a different name for the club and what are some suggestions? And getting back to the topic title how did you know you had a CJ/CF Lancer?

Re: How did you know you had a CJ/CF Lancer?
I know mine was a CJ from the moment I decided I wanted one.
I understand on some systems the codes vary but it was the CJ from late 2007 for the sedan, the CJ sportback was introduced in early 2008. The CF was released in 2017 with not much more than a different front bumper.
What I find weird is they went from CJ to CF, usually they go up. It went CA, CB, CC, CE, CG, CH then CJ and CF over the last 3 decades. So why go back the CF, why not CK, CL, CM?

Probably a copyright issue, CK, CL are like Mercedes codes. Similar to how the 911 was meant to be 901 but Peugeot protested.

Maybe but still more letters after that they could have used.

CL and CM are Valiant models, though it doesn't seem to matter much. Quite a few cars have matching chassis designations, e.g. Ford ZB Fairlane and Holden ZB Commodore

Pretty sure the difference between the CF and the CJ is the updated front bar with the DRLs? (CF has the DRL)
CF Lancer GSR 2.4L CVT Sportback
Tenzo-R Cuzco V.1
Tenzo-R Cuzco V.1
Re: How did you know you had a CJ/CF Lancer?
That's about it,plus extra gear inside, especially to ES Sport.
Re: How did you know you had a CJ/CF Lancer?
Mine a my15 ES Sport. Identified before I even bought it. Advertising, reviews, road tests etc;etc; Only difference
Only differences to my14 are different fog light apertures and turn signal lights moved to outside mirrors.

Easier way is to check the VIN
The 7th digit in from the left will tell you if it CJ or CY or CF
