Yeah dude,
Ralliart are a P plate legal car, you need to apply for a moderately powered exemption though which is merely paying a matter of $40 and filling out the form and attaching the Manufacter's letterhead that has all the cars specs on it. I got approved for a Ralliart I am just tossing up whether I want to pay $35k for one and fuel isn't getting any cheaper either >.<

Good luck with insurance costs with an RA on your P's. Would be an expensive exercise if you had a prang without it

Ralliart can't even break traction when you stomp on the pedal, whereas most old 4cyl or 6cyl POS will, but not have ABS etc. Hooray for trying to solve every problem with legislation.

I just can't get over that you have to APPLY to be allowed to drive an economy car like a cruze or a golf or something.

I know I’m quite late on this thread but here on SA as the car was mafactured after 2013 and after doing a high power vehicle check on the EzyReg website it is permitted as it is fitted for fuel efficiency reasons and not for performance. Again I’m not 100% certain and am going to do further research to clarify this.

Just to further add onto this old thread but in NSW the Ralliart is very much legal, anything over 130 p/w is classified as illegal to use by a P player unless you obtain an exemption

Current run of the mill every day cars are now mostly turbo.
Must be a pain in the rear for law with P platers!!!??? hahaha!

Change to power to weight ratios would seem the right track!
Could bring a couple of older V8s into the hands of P platers.

Hahah not at all! Yeah I remember getting my Lancer and the dealer was telling me about the old and new laws of P plate drivers, previously it was “it it’s turbo it’s bad” but most cars especially smaller economy cars have one now so like said it’s a pain in the bum to find a decent car without one haha! Power to weight works out well tbh, although it’s temptijg to always want more

Reckon lowering boost to lower the power to P plate requirements would be legal? In that case...
