Re: Leaking washer system
Already got the grommet, only ordered it yesterday.
So I've had the wheel arch lining off and you can see and touch the pump, but can the pump be popped out without taking the tank out?
If so I can swap out the grommet and check for leaks while its in the car.

Re: Leaking washer system
You should be able to get it out without removing the tank, should lift up and out

Re: Leaking washer system
Okay so finally I got back to this... and we have good and bad news.
Good news is there doesn't appear to be any cracks or leaks in the bottle its self, there was a bit of weeping around the filler where it joins the bottle but that doesn't explain the water loss.
I've taken the filler out and filled the bottle to the top. Its now sitting in a tub to see if I get any leaking, I put duct tape over the hole for the pump.
My theory is full the pressure causes a leak in the grummet so I will change that of course.
BTW it wasn't that hard to remove without taking the bumper off. Unclipped the guard plastic a bit more this time and folded it behind the suspension/brakes to allow a better view.
My lights set up LOL
This bolt was easy, other 2 were a bit harder, in through the fog light cover.
And its out... the leak is from the pump hole.
More to come but should have it back in (working or not) later today.

Re: Leaking washer system
So got it all back together, put in most of the water (over 3 Lt) before it started leaking again.
Bit of poking around and I think the pump is leaking. I noticed water weeping down the sides of the pump its self.
Notice the brown marks, that dirt, I think its been weeping for a while.
So good news if it is the pump then its covered by the Cricks extended warranty. Not that the pump is too expensive, less than $100 from memory.

Re: Leaking washer system
That's good news but do much effort for a small leak. Not sure I would have the patients

Re: Leaking washer system
While its apart I put some Selleys on it to seal the pump, didn't work.
There isn't anything I'm missing to seal it?
For now its back in one piece, might just see how much the pumps cost and replace it now I know its not that hard a job.

One other thing, I could not get the plug to come off the top of the pump. Which clearly I'll need to do if I'm gonna replace the pump.

There doesn't seem to be anything you could miss...
soak the plug with some anti sieze spray like crc or the like, should help loosen it, if not it has probably corroded together, which means new plug too
8260A109 is the washer part number for my 08 VR-X would imagine it is a universal Lancer part.

Re: Leaking washer system
The plug is more an issue of working out which bit to life to get it over the clip that holds it tight. Once I have another one it should be easy to see how it works.
Looking at this one on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-Qualit ... SwC-taHLGT
For less than $15 and here next week I think its worth a shot... now I've covered the current one with Selleys product meant to seal it from leaks.
Genuine ones like this cost over $110 with shipping and will take a few weeks to arrive.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8260A109-Ge ... SwkRpZnkTe
Its a fairly easy job, just takes a bit of time, so don't rush it and its not too hard but why didn't they just place the pump behind the tank so it was easier to get to?

Re: Leaking washer system
That pump doesn't look right.
To get the plug off probably requires you to press something and pull out at the same time
I would go to an automotive store as those pumps should be universal and a lot cheaper then getting it from Mitsubishi

I tried to seal the pump with some Selleys stuff, thats why it looks weird.

Some weekend musings thinking about this one, Is the leak definitely coming from the pump?
Just wire the pump up with a couple of fish tank tubes on it and run the pump to see if the water comes from the pump, or the long way is remove the bottle, plug the pump hole and fill to see if the leak is from the bottle behind the pump?
3 litres is a lot of water to finally see a leak, I would expect the pump to leak after 1.

Re: Leaking washer system
Could take the pressure of 3L to leak at the bottom...
