Mate car wont go out of gear

My mates central locking was horrid, he has some 1999 toyota spacia
so we put a new keyless entry kit and push start in --> keyles entry works fine, hooked up the push to start, car starts perfectly, yet i wont let him go out of gear (automatic),

will only go out of gear when the key is physically put into the barrel and put on accessory

any ideas on what to do? checked wiring diagrams and all sorts, cant find anything related to the trans. or similar

I know its not lancer related (hence being in General Discussion) but if we can get it working it would be mint.

The original key must be in the position to let the transmission out of park. You maybe need to find the lockout switch on the selector and bridge it out. Make sure the steering lock is releasing when you use the push to start.
May also be a dodgy brake light switch

could be, i know that we had to place the key right next to the barrel for the immobiliser chip to let the engine start, everything works perfectly including the steering, just not the transmission.

we can access the key barrel directly without taking off the steering wheel, since it's got an airbag we really dont want to risk it. accessed the main wires through the loom down near the footwell.

Brake light line from the pedal into the main loom appeared to be working fine, we tapped into that for the "push brake to start" with the button.

how would i find the lockout switch? and bridge it out?
pretty new to this side of things, went by the diagram on the kit for most of this

Look around the gearllever mechanism

If it's anything like the Lancer immobilizer then it needs the key in the barrel as it powers up a chip in the key that sends an ID code.
