What to set up a cheap (sub $50) dash cam in the back on my sedan.
I'm thinking of a cheap 1080p one like this...
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HD-1080P-Sma ... SwEjFXdMB7
And just need the best options for power, either run the wire all the way to the front or find a power source in the back I can tap in to that turns on when I start the car. I just want to set up something I can check every few months but otherwise forget about unless the worst happens.
Also the one above can be wired into the HU for real time feedback.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
Some helpful advice please or I'll need to go to an expert
Ideally I'd like to install a hidden USB power port in the boot then run the rear camera lead into the boot for power.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
I ran my cable all the way down to the fuse box at the front, i heard from someone that it was a safer option and easier besides the really long cable your gonna need.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
not personally installed myself, but when i had my dual way dash cam installed the guy tapped power from the 3rd brake light and then ran the video lead through the roof lining to the main unit mounted on the windscreen. works a dream. figured a similar thing could work for a reverse camera

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
I was talking about a rear dash cam, already have a reverse camera hooked up to my 10" HU.
Wouldn't the 3rd brake light only power on when its used? I do have the wiring for the Rockford Fosgate sub in the boot, wonder if that is powered or has to be connected at the other end?
Otherwise I might need to run the power to the front.
Also has anyone used one of these? I have the older R10+ and it works great but might put it in the back and get one.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
Yeah, I was thinking the third brake light would only be powered when the brakes are applied. That Kaiser Baas is like the exact same design as my BlackVue DR450, which i dearly love. It doesn't have a screen, but that doesn't bother me, as the old one I had had a screen and it died after about 18 months. The less that can go wrong with it, the better in my opinion, and how often do you really need a screen on something like this? I have the DR450 tucked up behind the rear-view mirror, it's barely noticeable from inside the car.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
There are a number of cheaper versions of the BlackVue on the market now, the Kaiser Baas one is about $150 at Teds Camera's, its $20 more at some other places in Australia, I've checked. This one have GPS and WiFi plus gesture control!
Really wasn't looking at spending this much but yesterday I checked my camera and some of the files were crupt, could not open them with any program I tried, not good if you need the footage! So it might be time for a new one up front.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
yeah i got the blackvue dual way, dont know the model number. works a treat. even caught i hilux rear ending a Maserati which was entertaining
I could be wrong about the bake light. im only judging by looking at the wiring that is shown.
could possible be run to the same originating power source as the brake light, the cables being run side by side?

with this one does it still record when the car is switched off so it can record front and rear to catch anyone who hits the car

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
I think it does, one of the features are 'G-Sensor shock detection begins recording automatically upon impact'
Its really new so no reviews I could find online.

Re: Rear 'dash' camera
Just posted a question to the KB website and apparently the R40 doesn't have a parking mode, maybe the G-Sensor shock detection is only there in the event of a crash to save the footage?
Re: Rear 'dash' camera
Perhaps an alternative would be to pick up a full time live wire, preferably at the rear to save running a wire up through the car.
and as an extra, maybe a switch if needed, once again front or the rear (fore easier wiring) when car is garaged and out of harms way.
