ASC, ABS warnings and check engine light

Postby tusk » Wed Aug 26, 2015 8:35 pm

Hi, I'm a long time browser but haven't posted here before.

I loaned our 09 VR to my parents today while they are visiting. They brought it back today and it now displays the following errors:

-ABS 'service required' (comes on and stays on)
-ASC 'service required' (comes on and stays on as well)
-Check engine light, ABS and 'ASC Off' stay on.

Other than the above, the car idles and drives like normal. I've left it for a good few hours and started it again and the same errors still appear.

I'm worried about the engine warning light as we don't have the money for any expensive repairs at the moment.
Will my local mechanic be able to diagnose these issues? Unfortunately my local mitsu dealer closed down last year.
I'm hoping it'll be something simple like wheel sensors. Battery was replaced last year so I'm sure it isn't battery related.

Is anyone with some knowledge able to help?

yep. most mechanics will be able to read diagnostic trouble codes.

you can also buy a OBD 2 connector and some software and read the codes your self. also you can clear them.

you can try to disconnect the battery for a decent length of time and see if the codes come back.

i have one of these units with the torque app for andriod.

works quite well and i keep it with the car.

Thanks for the info guys. I have booked my car in for my local mechanic to look at first thing Monday morning. He said he has the right tools to diagnose it. It hasn't been used since Wednesday. I started it up on Friday morning and it still displayed the same errors.
I'll post a follow up once I know what the damage is.

Hi All - just a quick follow up. Had my car in at my local mechanic yesterday and he replaced a speed sensor on one of the wheels. He said he gave it a good clean and the car was still giving the same error but everything returned to normal when he replaced it with a new one.
The car was also long over due for a service but it is back to normal now. I'm just happy it wasn't the ABS pump (going by other threads with similar issues).

That was fortunate, my mum had to replace her ABS pump $1400 @ 50% of the cost.
