Vortex generator flew off

Postby XTPN » Sat Aug 15, 2015 6:06 pm

Hey everyone,
Was driving back home from a fishing trip last night on the M4, Sydney. When suddenly I heard a rattling noise on my roof. Looked at it as I got home, only to find out it was gone :(

Now theres just the ugly sikkaflex which is impossible to remove. I thought this method to adhere the VG to the roof was the safest way (in comparison to double sided tape), I guess not.. I've only had it on for about half a year too haha

Grab a Caramel Wheel AKA Pin Stripe Remover from an automotive or paint store, it should remove the bulk of the sikaflex. Then use a grease/sticky remover spray to get rid of the smudges. If you do it slowly and lightly it won't damage your paint.

Do I have to remove chunks of sikaflex off with a blade before using the wheel?

Sorry to see that, which make was it. Might be one to avoid and for those who have the same, time to check it.

Any luck finding it?

I wouldn't use any blade near the paint work, way too easy to slip an cut it.

Not sure. I'll provide a picture. Purchased it on eBay from a seller in QLD for $99. Didn't bother finding it since it was along a 90km motorway.

No just use the wheel straight up, as said above don't use a knife near your paintwork. Also with the wheel do it lightly and slowly.

Does it look good just from the caramel wheel? Or did you need to get it repainted after removing the sikaflex. Glad to hear that man happy to help.

Like original and didn't require a repaint!

That's awesome! Repainting can be expensive
