Good ideas for reverse cameras,?

So I'm looking at getting an aftermarket reverse cameras and i would like to know my options and your opinions on these
Has anyone had experience with the parkmate systems from jbhifi
The ones that clip over the mirror. Or would I be best getting the ones with the screen and mounting somehwere such as the visor or the area under the air con switches

Any ideas on other systems which might be good?

What head unit do you have?

IMO you're better off getting a new HU which you can add a revers camera too later.

I have the standard head units in the Es. It's not even touch screen. New head units are a little out of my price range at the moment

I'm in the same boat but I figure save up for the HU then get a camera and better speakers/sub.

Can I ask why you need a camera, yes I know backing can be a pain in the CJ (and most modern cars) I'm still learning and I've been driving many years and had the CJ 6 months now.

Short of a new HU then your cheapest option might be one where the screen is part of the revers mirror or on the dash. As you may know they are on eBay for less than $50.

What I'm also wondering is how hard is it to get a stock CJ camera on the boot below the diamond? Or is it better to get an after market on that might work better?

Well my main issue is my workplace where it can be very very tight and I've been needing to get people to guide my reverse as it's just too close pretty much all the people who own cars follow the same procedure or we face parking up the road and walking. I was tossing up between a camera or sensors but I don't trust aftermarket sensors. The idea now I guess would be to start saving for a HU but get a camera installed with one of those separate monitors until I have the money

And just personally I don't really like the oem camera I find it just looks out of place. The aftermarket ones depending on which one you get look nicer and less obvious

I went down this road once before. I dont have a touch screen HU either but this was all bought the cheapest from ebay. Tried to mount a 7" monitor into the sunvisors I bought off ebay.

Depending on the monitors weight, you may come into issues with the monitor staying up when not in use. Also depending how crafty you are. Would also be ok when its pulled down to view. Routing the wires wasnt to hard and mounted the camera on rear bumper above the licence plate. In the end I scrapped the sunvisor mounted screen when wedged it in the area behind/infront gear stick.

The camera was rubbish, kinda grainy but does the job with 170 degree fov. Not too bad for basic reversing up close as long as you keep using the same reference. All up was roughly $40-$50. But as Lancer1993 suggested best option to wait for HU with screen or if you really need to maybe give it a go.

Must be a tough place to park but if it helps then yes get one but I agree don't rely on it alone. They will distort where things are but can help in tight places.

I just Really don't want to run over things

. On another note though do any of you have experience with aftermarket sensors. I dont trust them personally but will take someone's word for them

I used to have a camera similar to this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221521408116 and then had a replacement mirror with a screen built into it, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/131534011685. Replacement mirrors look heaps better than the cheap ones that clip over your existing mirror.

I quite like the mirror one. Was it difficult to install? And how hard to get the old mirror off

I like the mirror ones, its a nice stealthy way to have it and not need to put another screen hanging off the dash of window.

I know some have a system that clips on the existing mirror but really like to also know how easy/hard it is to install this in a CJ.

So if im correct. This one here just plugs into yiur accessory socket rather than needing to splice wires
