I saw the black Lancer on the TEN news last night, they showed here passing a 4x4, apparently she didn't see or know it was a creek or something, really? The bow wave of water went over the bonnet and thats it, engine is dead!

And can cost you a fortune even if you don't loose your insurance, trust me I know.

I had a similar thing happened to me and my CC coupe about 14 years ago, although it was different situation. I was a lot younger, the water was only 10-15 cm deep and it wasn't a creek but a drain off the side spilling water onto a road. I followed a couple of other small cars through this little bit of water only a few inches deep and it ended up costing me about $1600. Luckily the insurance kicked in but it was very close to being a right off. Which worked fine for the next 160,000km / 14 years until the head casket started leaking, whole other story.

The main reason for the whole problem was someone who ironically did some rust treatment on the car years before didn't replace part of my air intake system so is was being sucked in from much closer to the ground. They are in the front corner in older Lancer's. So without a small bit of missing plastic which I had no idea was missing it killed the engine.

The lady in the black CJ might have now lost her insurance now and the car will probably be written off depending how much is costs to fix the engine if it sucked in water bending internal bits in the engine.

Don't think it would matter, your doors are not water tight and the interior would probably already be flooding, that said I saw another guy in an older Lancer (yes a 2nd Lancer) he got out through the windows but the water was barely at the bottom of the doors.

I would say that black one will be written off, even if the engine escaped internal damage the electrics could be stuffed not to mention the cars interior so $1000s to fix. The car was bobbing around for a short time and water was over the top of the front tires.

They had the clip on The Project and yes she said she didn't see the water. They were lucky they could walk away from it.
