RRP is about 230. I sell it for trade price which isn't much better... it used to be less but the aussie dollar divebombed :(

^ while the base fluid is definitely the same - there was always this speculation about certain minor additives being added to the Ford or the Mitsu fluids to change the way they behaved. This is what caused so many people to stick with Diaqueen.

and while the test we did above looks similar so far, many people have reported they don't quite behave the same in the car. never know if this is pure chance though!

If the same people were told it was diaqueen maybe they would think it was ok, you have to have a double blind test.

Hmmm maybe. I'll have to see if i have enough left of each, but I have a feeling that i don't :(

Looking at the FTIR results between diaqueen and ford, am I correct to assume that the y axis indicates the concentration of a substance at a particular wavelength? Does that mean the variation around 920 - 980 nm and around 780 nm indicates that the ford fluid contains something that is not present diaqueen? As for the slight amplitude difference for the rest of the spectrum, would that be a variation in manufacturing, storage or instrument readings?

Hi Ken, regarding the FTIR you are kind of right about the concentration. Yes, a stronger peak typically does mean there is a higher concentration of that particular functional group. The slight variation you are talking about between the Ford and Diaqueen i would say is negligible, and just due to noise/instrument etc, as is the slight amplitude change. But good observation.

One difference I would say was real is the peak at about 1060nm in the Motul vs LiquiMoly. The peak is there in the Motul, but very faint in the LiquiMoly. This peak is not that strong however so relatively a smaller component.

As I said before, I am only going on this one test. From this test only, it appears as though it is very similar. However, as can be seen in the results, the Motul and LiquiMoly are also quite similar, but have slightly different viscosity. Until I have some more data I'm not happy to say the two are the same.

I'll try and get some more work done on it this week if I have time.
