Air conditioner problems

Postby ashleymorris » Sun Jan 19, 2014 11:39 am

After removing my front bumper yesterday to install my LED strips, when I turned the car back on my air con wasn't working at all. A family friend who is an auto-electrician helped me wire the LEDs in and he also came back when I told him the air con wasn't working. He checked all the fuses under the bonnet and behind the glove box - none of them had blown. Then he smacked the fan behind the glove box and the air con came on.

I went to go out a few hours later and when I turned the car on, the air con was dead again. I pulled the glove box down and smacked the fan and on it came. After I went to Dan Murphy's, turned my car back on again - it was dead. Again. I didn't bother smacking it this time as it seems like it'll be an on-going problem until I call the dealership.

My friend thinks the fan is almost 'out of brushes' and needs to be replaced (hopefully under warranty as it's only a year and a half old).

Has anyone else ever had this sort of problem? It's making me sad because it's been so long since I've had any problems with the car :(

I have read on here of other members having their fan replaced under warranty.

could have something stuck in the blower fan, stopping it from spinning.

+1

Take the entire assembly apart and inspect\clean out the blower.
It's an electric blower but when it stalls it requires a higher voltage to get the motor going again or a physical jolt.

This is also similar to how modern 12v computer fans operate.

just disconnect the battery and watch out for them fingers when inspecting.

Thanks guys :)
I've got it booked in at the dealership where I bought it tomorrow morning. I'd rather they look at it, that way if it needs to be replaced it should be under warranty, or if something gets broken it isn't my fault :P
