Custom ES console upgrade

Don't think you could get all those options in the ES? But they turned the ES console lids into compartment lids on the RA, We got lids for the drink holder, the ash tray, too compartment below the a/c control with lids.

ACS, TCS, EBD, ABS, airbags, stock standard 5 star safety rating...

MMCS I don't know if it's an official option but my closest dealer is PM... they're mitsu's primary (only?) importer in australia... They have NO problem installing OEM parts in any model...

So not sure if you can get it (through other dealers), there's still the option of 6CD RF premium audio, I'm sure I remember that...

I had a BIG dispute with my dealer over this:

I asked for a console lid and he said it couldn't be done... I said I would buy the car today if I could have a console lid like VRX fitted. He said they'd do it but it'd be expensive... $350 for the lid!

But I said ok - so, they called me while my car was being setup, said "we figured out that you can't just put the lid on an ES (duh! anyone who walks around lancers all day should have realised this!!) and that I would have to buy a VRX complete console for $850 instead if I wanted it. I explained that they should reduce the price, since they'd signed a contract saying "with console lid" and with a price on it - I should have it for that agreed price, with agreed console lid...

They told me they WERE helping me out... it would normally be over $1000...

I was taken aback...... I called 3 other dealer's parts departments for pricing.... All were over $1000 except one I haggled for a while....

so IMHO I ended up getting the shaft a bit... he knocked the $350 extra off the total price of the car and i got it with stock ES console....

Hating that open-hole in the middle of my car ever since...

Everything else the lancer kicks ass, but console and glove box - I miss my commodore - lol... (not really!)

but yeah - the RA interior's a lot more complete then ours speedie - I've seen... much nicer inside... spose they gotta make the budget models 'budget' in some way!

I seriously dont understand why they charge so much for so little.

I understand dealers want to mark up and make a bit of profit off an OEM part sale. I think we can all agree on that.

But the amount that they mark up on the part is un-resonable.

Honestly, for a worldwide company, who mass produce EVERYTHING that goes into their cars, i really cant see that entire VRX center console costing $800 and $50 profit for the dealer. (i know it wouldnt be that much but im using it as an example).

It doesnt cost mitsu $800 to produce that part.

That would be highly un-economic. For a company that makes a lancer for something like 6-8 grand (ofey?) there is no way it would cost them $800 to get that console. Bloody rip off.

For all we know, that entire center console costs mitsu $13 to make. Its just dumb in my opinion.

+1 on that rant tho tadz.... it's true... $850 is a joke... I'm making a lid the very UN-economical way and it's going to turn out a hell of a lot cheaper... it's sad... if the VRX console was a $250 - $300 option (ie. if u buy it, you have to buy it and u have 2 consoles, one ES and one VRX... if u choose it at time of purchase they can order the VRX console instead and the ES one doesn't go to waste, there's no "2 consoles" in the end... just 1 ES with a VRX console....)

It was drummed into me that "you buy an ES... you don't get a console unless you pay unreasonable amounts"

That's part of the reason I'm so itchin to get this thing up-and-going! So I can send annonymous pics to mistu and say "MWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!" I WIN!!!!

Accessories are there for them to make back money they don't make on the cars.

You can hardly count a center console an 'Accessory though.

My mums fiesta doesnt have a center console, but it was an option when buying it. At the time of purchuse it was something like $170.

When we went after we bought it, it was something like $300.

Only the lower half of the console had to be replaced, not the whole thing though.

Still doesnt constitute a price of 800 for a piece of plastic.

I paid $140 for an ipod cable with a funny connection on the end. Probably cost them $5.

ES is only 4 stars because it doesn't have the side air bags....

But yeah skimping out on a lidded console is stupid, but hey no hydraulic bonnet lifters is stupid too aswell as minimal sound proofing

I gotta sound proof mine. Got bloody exams soon so i got no spare time =(.

Ill do it on the school holidays. I just picked up some of that sound deadener spray from autobarn to get me started. If that goes well, ill get another can to make a second coat and i think i will be set!!
