Just brought a new car!

Postby SammyH » Wed Aug 21, 2013 7:21 pm

Thought i'd keep everyone updated!

Just brought myself a 2nd hand 2011 Ralliart Lancer :)
Being on my P's i've got my exemption so all ready to drive it picking it up next Wednesday!
Got a few mods planned straight off the bat upgraded Car stereo and the DEPO Projector Headlights with HIDs(I know they're Illegal). BOV and turboback exhaust and if i'm lucky upgrade the FMIC ;)

Pretty happy with the purchase i'll be taking some happy snaps next week!

Thanks buddy,

I'm pretty easily i think in about 2010? or early 2011 they brought out the "Moderately powered exemption" they don't really advertise it in great detail but pretty much if a car is turbo/supercharged and is under 125kw/tonne a P plater can drive it providing you apply. From what i've been told if you have a history they'll can your application but a clean driver like me had no worries :)

Queensland is the only state i think to have this and NSW has had some talk of lifting the ban on all turbos as well to something similar like QLD's

Yeah NSW is apparently moving to a 130kW/tonne restriction.. which doesn't help a great deal tbh.. just means we can drive small 1.2L Turbo cars that use turbo chargers to be more fuel efficient.

Well, I'd rather a 2.4L VRX over a 1.2L Turbo Golf haha

I think i'd prefer anything over a golf! hahah!

Just for the same comment would always be made! "Sounds just like a golf"
or even worse buying a jeep "You bought a jeep?"

Those car commercials are played far too much!

Congrats mate! Now I don't mean to pull the whole "old man" angle, but as a p-plater I would suggest the car has plenty of poke for you as is whilst in a stock setup. Sure go do headlights and aesthetic stuff, but modifying BOVs, dropping in aftermarket front mounts and turbo-back exhausts is just asking for trouble from the coppers.

As I said, I'm not meaning to be a dick at all, just suggesting to take it easy for a while, get a feel for the car then get stuck into the mods. Because once you start, it is EXTREMELY hard to stop :)

Agreed. However I've never been in that situation and don't know how hard it is to resist :P

How much longer have you got on your P's btw?

If you start replacing FMIC and BOV etc, you better also add a retune... especially when changing the FMIC
