Has anyone here taken off their spoiler before?

Postby Seal Cub » Mon May 13, 2013 8:56 am

I've been attempting to take off my "high rise" spoiler which is similar to the VRX spoiler.

I tried to follow the instructions on this forum thread:
http://forums.evolutionm.net/09-ralliar ... 08-ra.html

But I'm not sure if it's the adhesive that's very sticky or that it is just difficult to lift up in general.

Has anyone here done it before and if so, any tips for removing it with ease?

thanks!

I haven't tried removing my spoiler, though it is something i want to do in the near future.
Did you try heating the adhesive with a blow dryer or a heat gun?

Yeah, the adhesive (double sided tape) is quite sticky..

How longs ya spoiler been on for? I had to take my spoiler off a few months ago and it came straight off. Mind u it was broken and the adhesive wasn't sticky at all. It actually looked like it was all eaten away as half of it was missing. Have a few people to help u lift it off sore u don't damage anything.
If its too sticky maybe heat it and use fishing line, like how people take the badges off.

Yeah I tried heating it with a hair dryer and used floss, but I'll try fishing wire since it's stronger. The car is about a year old, so the adhesive is probably still very sticky. I'll it it another try this weekend.

They probably find plugs of some sort. I'm going to put it back on though. I just need to take it off for something I'm working on lol

I went out and bought a pack if rubber grommet things from auto barn and have just plugged my holes for now. Only cost like $3. But they come in different sizes so measure the hole size. I didn't and had go back to swap em over for smaller ones.

It was 10pm at a meet the first time i removed my spoiler, no fishing line or heat.. apply continuous pressure in a rolling motion from rear of car towards back windscreen... the adhesive slowly gives up the fight.

Thanks Tate! I might have to use fishing wire since my car is just around a year old so the adhesive will be very strong. But it's good to know that someone else has actually done this before!
