Folding mirrors with blind spot indicator

I have a soft spot for the new blind spot indicator on the new Toyota's I have been driving... I would like to have the best of both worlds but I would rather have the blind spot indicator over the novelty of the mirrors folding in on request.

Does anyone know of an after market system that does this? Also, if you haven't driven a vehicle that has this function, test driving one WILL change your mind.

My father in laws Merc has that feature.. Doesn't mean anything to me, I always do I head check, picked up the habit from riding motorbikes when I was younger.

Lol Erin I completely agree I mean if u can move the check ur mirror then why drive ... However with that in mind it is a cool option to have that blind spot thing lol just for the fact it cool .. The lancer has the best mirrors I have come across in a car I don't think it's needed though in the car at all

I just want to clear something up, it is an additional safety feature. My wife drives my ralliart 90% of the time, mostly with my under two year old and most people drive to try and impress as soon as they see it is a turbo vehicle.

I agree with you Chris they are a good safety enhancement to your car.Mind you after reading some of the posts in this thread it would appear that if you think you are a really good driver you don't need them.Let us know how you get on with them.Cheers Mate.

I don't think it if you think your a good driver you don't need them , I think is more a case of that they are safety (option) for a reason and not standard issue on all cars and its more an option opinion rather than major safety concern like airbags still a good option to have though

If you have your mirrors set correctly then the only blind spots are directly behind your rear pillars (too small for a close car to fit in) and either side of you (turn your head?).

You shouldn't be able to see your car in your side mirrors, if you can see your doors then you're not using the entirety of your mirrors.

Safety is good, but I also think the largest part of safety is being an active driver. If you surround yourself with too many things 'helping' you drive then you may take things for granted and just worry about whats directly ahead of you and plod along in your own little world.

Of course theres people that already do that so *shrug*. As long as you don't depend on it then go for it.

I find them ok, but I find anything that does things for me, I get complacent.
Like the lancer being keyless, when I drive someone else's car, 80% of the time, the key gets left in the ignition lol

It's handy to have these features, and definitely make a good back up and I don't think having them makes you a bad driver or lazy, just an extra precaution.
Just can't get slack and rely on them because when you then get into something else, that's when you risk an accident because you expect the car to let you know.

Anything that helps stop one car running into another can't be a bad thing.

You can check your mirrors and turn your head all you want, there are still going to be blind spots, especially in bad weather or when a split second merge has to be made - this warning could mean the difference between having a huge accident and not. People need to stop acting like they're above safety technologies.
