SE Asia travel advice

I know this is way off topic but since theres a lot of worldy people out there i am asking anyone...

Next month my GF and I are off to Singapore for 2 nights, then off on a 14-day cruise from Singapore-Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh-Perth. I am wondering if anyone has any specific advice on day trips in Singapore over a weekend, also any day trips in the other cities.

The other thing i would really like to get some feedback on is cheap prepaid sim options, especially one that works in all countries. I only plan on using it a little bit, mainly to keep in touch with the kids in port. Making calls on Optus roaming start AT LEAST twice the price (can make a call on the ship at $6 per minute... and forget about the data charges...).

Hi Phil!

I'm from Singapore so I think I can give you some really good local advice!

Given that Singapore is relatively small, you can easily cover most places in a day, as that the train (MRT) is extremely convenient as it takes you to most places. Below is a simple itinerary I can think off the top of my head for now!

Saturday -
Little India (Indian heritage)
Kampong Glam (Malay heritage)
Orchard Road (main shopping area in Singapore)
Clarke Quay (drinking and clubbing)

Sunday -
Marina Bay Sands (hotel, skygarden and infinity pool, casino)
Gardens by the Bay (indoor rainforest)
Sentosa (Universal Studios)

You can get a lot of ideas from the site on what to do and see. I'd suggest checking out your local library for one of our books too on those locations. City Guides or the smaller Encounter guides would be a good place to start SE Asia on a shoestring should cover all those countries too so that might be another good resource.

I'm drawing up a complete blank right now for other advice... but yeah check out the website at the least. It'll give you a starting point on what you might want to see.

so much info on the web its hard to know where to start.

theres a few good day tours from bangkok, ayutthaya is a good one, so is the floating markets/tiger temple.
if u dont want to bother with a busload of tourists i`d check out tongs tours, number 2 on tripadvisor.

One advice, in Singapore there is this faux Lancer Ralliart. This so-called Ralliart Edition Lancer is merely cosmetic, and it's powered by a tepid 1.6-litre engine coupled with a lowly 4-speed automatic. There are no real Ralliarts in Southeast Asia except in the Philippines (and don't bother asking how much it costs there).

Back to topic, I'd definitely see the Merlion if I were there. The F1 is also in Singapore this Sunday.

Actually Squala you are wrong.... they did offer the ralliart in singapore for a while but there was almost zero interest as the price diff between it and the EVO was too small so no one actually went for it.... furthermore if u live in singapore u will realise y whether having a 1.6litre or a 2.0litre turbo does not make any difference.... ure still stuck at every traffic light every 100m.

Oh did they? I stand corrected then. I was pertaining to the current time. When I tried Mitsu websites around SE Asia to see if they sold RAs, I only found it available in the Philippines, which is a direct import from USA. I wanted to find out if I can get performance parts from there at much lower prices; Australian taxes are just atrocious.

It's quite funny though that HSVs are sold in Singapore given its traffic conditions.
