Brighter headlights legal in Queensland

Hey club cj,

I want to get a head light that I can see a little further and clearer. But I need them to be legal on Queensland roads. I also don't want to cut or splice any wires.

Can you guys direct me to some legal headlights that fits this criteria. Under $400 for the set would be nice too.

I have done lots of googling, lots of searching but always find American sites and unclear on legislation.

Hey Joel,


There are many Brands of Main & High Beam Globes on the market.
However many are just cheap imitations of the few Real Top quality globe manufactures such as. Philips, Narva, PIAA & MTEC.
They are available in various bases, color temps, wattage's & dispersion range .... depending on Brand &/or Application.

Don't waste your money on cheap no-frills brands.

Great write up sam

Basically, on any box with the globes in them look for a small rectangle logo that says "ADR *Tick sign*" and they are legal to use on the road do to being approved for Australian roads. Most globes that are pure while/blue are not suitable for use on roads and state they are not ADR approved.

I'm using the Phillips Xtreme Power +80%, and can vouch for them. I wouldn't say it's actually 80% brighter, but the reach and clarity with them on is definitely improved on the stock bulbs.

The output is a warm yellow though, similar to the stock ones, so it won't be any good for show.

Very nice write up Sam. I'm running Osram Nightbreakers, they're in the +90 brighter range like the competitors - I'd place the brand in the same premium category at Philips and Narva, being made in Germany.

Keep in mind Joel, any bulb that outputs a brighter light will not last as long as the stock bulbs. But for me, I don't mind factoring in the cost of ~$40-50 for a pair of bulbs each year for improved night visibility that can directly increase your safety on the roads.

Ill take into consideration these bulbs. But a mate of mine today sent me a link to some Projectors his mate bought and installed today. Apparently the performance is outstanding. Cost about $200 for a DIY kit. Ill see if i can get a link for you guys to get some opinions as you guys seem switched on with these.

Nighbreakers 90% or X-treme power are my choices. But yes, they are not whiter cuz they more or less have minimal blue tinting - which means more actual lumens on the road!

I really like the blue look on my white car. Looks amazing.
Im getting glasses soon for driving only so i should be able to see better at distance with them (Im short sighted)
Also i have installed white LED Strip behind my grill, Which against yellower light, makes them look blue which is illegal.

What do you guys think? There is pros and cons of both in my opinion...
