2012 Toyota 86 vs 2012 Subaru BRZ

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, and could still depend on what the Yen/Dollar exchange rate looks like when the car goes on sale in May/June. It’s likely to exceed $40,000 for the well equipped ‘high-line’ version, which gets climate control and leather seats, with the more basic ‘low-line’ car stripping some of the toys and likely to cost a couple of thousand dollars less.

The Genesis Coupe comes to us in the next model cycle. 2015 I think. We not getting the current one. By then Kia will have their version of it too or take bits from its K9 flagship to make a sports coupe.
The 86 and BRZ will more than likely land here around the 42k mark depending on spec that Australia will receive.

sucks that our cars here cost more then the US. Not impressed.
However on an other note... i think i read somewhere that Subaru will be aiming at a mid-cycle upgrade where they might boost engine power and such. I'd be interested to see what they do for the upgrade...
probably not a good idea to get a first gen car anyway. need to wait for them to iron out all the bugs

We earn a LOT more than they do though.
And I doubt theres going to be many issues. These are very simple cars. Same way there was very little issues with our lancers (and if there are issues, they'll issue recalls and you wouldn't be out of pocket).
I'd say they've put a lot of effort into getting the two cars just right.
I'd love one of these cars is it was free, or maybe secondhand, but their prices don't work for me. They should've tried to make them a bit cheaper or a bit faster. Right now they just seem like they've missed the mark slightly.
That said they ARE cheap for a sports car. Maybe I'm just disappointed I'm not in a place where I can afford one
Its hard to justify them over a ralliart/WRX though...

You bought the lancer close to the end of its line. Go back to 2008 launch, you'd be hard pressed at that time to find a better car than the CJ.
If you need a car at this time, you buy what you can.
But honestly seeing as you bought a Lancer in 2011, I think I would have bought a SP25 if I bought a car last year.
So at 2012 June if you were looking for a car, I think a FT-86 would have got my vote.

Isn't that the whole point though Ray? To make an affordable but sporty car for the enthusiasts.
I know i'm tempted to get one and make it a track day / go fast project car because it is pretty cheap compared to say my RA or an Evo.
I get what you mean though about how it seems to lose some of the magic because of the price tag. But i think it might be a good thing. maybe this will mean that car prices in the future wont be so extreme
