sell me on a lancer

Postby tekkado » Mon Mar 19, 2012 6:56 pm

so im looking to maybe downdrage by car. i have a 05 fairlane at the moment and shes sucking to much juice so im thinking of going 4cyl and if i had to from what i can see i want to get a cj lancer. but the only thing holding me back is it being fwd. (and it may sound silly but ive always had rwd 6cyl cars) i love the brand mitsubishi my family has a magna, pajero and my sister actually has a cj sportback which ive moved btu not driven yet. i looked at saw that the only awd versions were evo and ralliart which i dont want to spend as much as what theyre going for.

to sum up i want one but its small nigly things holding me back i love the look the amount of aftermarket parts but yeah sell me one it please =] =]

Mate, go drive it and see if you are happy with it! It's the only way to judge. For what they are they are a fantastic car. I sold my EL XR8 and bought a colt because I had to!! Then traded that on my SX.
I am happy with my lancer, good luck with your choice.

I'll be devil's advocate, I'll list some of the downsides of the Lancer:

Lack of telescopic adjustment on the steering wheel makes for a less than ideal driving position for taller drivers (steering too far, pedals too close). Just like every other 4cyl small car, they're made for tiny 5 foot tall Japanese frames, with rudimentary 'adjustments' to accomodate taller people, but I don't think an engineer stopped to think about the repercussions - eg. sliding the seat back is fine, but then you have the seat belt anchorage point directly to the side of your field of view.
Then again, I've never favoured Falcon's driving positions - anything earlier than FG series they tend to feel like you're sitting on the car not in it.

Interior plastics are often criticised in Lancers - although honestly I find not much difference between any of the small car rivals. Corollas, Mazda3, Daewoo Cruze, etc. they're all covered in cheap plastics and no frills.

On the upside, if you buy new or close to new, there's fixed price servicing from the dealer - $130 per year or 15,000kms, that's all you'll pay to run it - except for fuel and tyres (on top of rego/insurance, etc). But I believe Toyota also has similar fixed priced servicing - if you can live with the stigma of being a Toyota driver.

I will actually tell you not to buy one. Do not buy a lancer. You will regret it.
