I don't want to sound like the opposition here but I would urge many of you to be very careful about buying BLACKED OUT tail lamps even with the E-mark which supposedly satisfies our Australian Design Rules (ADR).
I've been told that manufacturers get the E-Mark based on their initial designs which are usually the clear or slightly smoked versions and during the course of manufacturing make the BLACKED OUT versions due to customer demand. A blacked out lens is simply the same lens which was made generic thereby having the E-Mark already.
The BLACKED OUT version though will not pass an ADR check.
When pulled over by the cops for a BLACKED OUT tail lamp, Please do not argue that yours is E-Marked and therefore legal. If they want to have "fun" with you they can then refer you to your local Road Authority and you need to send your lamps for the ADR checks which will cost you a couple of hundred dollars to do. This money is your own out of pocket expense to satisfy the cops but you cannot claim it back from anywhere.
A BLACKED OUT tail lamp DOES NOT conform to ADR.

So I'm guessing that you mean, legally we're only meant to be using clear versions of tail lamps? Or are you merely saying that we shouldn't buy tail lamps that are heavily tinted dark. And that these "smoked" tail lights are ok, as long as its not too dark.
Sorry, I'm really confused at the moment with what you've said. (Not a morning person here).
I just want to get this cleared up. As the seller has contacted me and I want to make sure I buy the correct tail lights. Smoke or Clear version?
PS. Looked through the Garage and am I correct to say that Steve83 has the Clear Version and Gleno has the Smoked Version of the OEM Style Tail Lights??

Smoked would be ok.
I am saying don't go overboard on the BLACK OUT.
alot of the time pictures don't do the tinting justice.
Remember about photography you need to consider flash and ambient lighting.
The BLACKED OUT ones are those that gets the Coppers excited.
BLACKED OUT =>you cannot even look through it.
I can't find a picture of the Blacked out LED Tail Lamps but suffice to say, this person would be asking for it in Australia:

Thanks ofey. I just had in my mind that smoked ones are techically still blacked out, as they have a light tint in them to make them look a shade darker then normal. But yeh, I'm glad that is not the case.
So considering what you've said, I feel at ease now. I can happily purchase the Smoked OEM Style LED Tail Lights knowing that I will be fine. I don't really want to spend $350 on a trojan horse.
Though, knowing what I know now, I'm thinking will smoked tail lights suit my white lancer? Or will the clear ones suit much more better??
..Oh choices. I think I might have brunch first.

Thanks Doreen. Yeah, I have been thinking of sticking to the smoked ones. It would be more ideal. I just cant see it yet in my mind, as most of the pictures have cars that are dark in colour, never in a white.
Anyway, I still have a month to decide. And a month to save up money. Christmas is my most expensive time of the year. It seems that the cost of presents have gone up like 10 fold for me. Sigh..

steve83 wrote:Hi Ramon, I bought mine from the seller that Sam posted up earlier so I would assume that its smoked. Its just the camera I think because it is much darker when you see it in person. Heres a picture of a white car with the smoked lights.
Thanks Steve for the reply. Yeh, they do look pretty sweet. I guess I'd have to see it in person to understand that its lighter then they look in the picture.
Ok so I've made up my mind... I'll get the smoked version when they become available next year. Many thanks to everyone who responded. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! ^_^
For those interested, the smoked and clear versions are up for sale now from that seller, link here:

I just purchased a smoked pair myself.
