FIXED - R U missing the ClubCJ email notifications?

Postby The X » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:39 am

Just a heads up, if you use one of the following ISPs/mail providers, you may not be getting email notifications for new PMs or watched threads...

Affected are
Gmail
Internode
TPG
OptusNet
Bigpond

This is due to the planned work to move servers. Currently our new IP address appears on some spam black/grey lists. Look like the previous custodian of our IP address may not have been a good netizen.

I am in the process of getting our IP address de-listed from the spam realtime blackhole lists.

RESOLVED:
TPG should have been sorted out this morning at 2 am
OptusNet should have been sorted out this morning at 2 am
Bigpond should have been sorted out this morning at 3 am
TPG was fixed the same time as OptusNet as they both use Trend Micro's RBL database

GMail fixed as at 20/12

The Gmail users are going to have to wait it out. It will take some days for Google "reputation rating" system to reach a score where mail from clubcj.net is "trusted" by the Gmail servers. There is nothing I can do to "hurry it up" - nor do Google have a system where I request de-listing or white listing.

Sorry about that. :(

Yup, the outbound emails from our server get bounced by the Gmail server so they wont even make it your account. :) Hopefully that will sort itself out soon...

For those not on Gmail - you may have noticed you got a burst of pending email notifcations flood through to your mailbox this afternoon. Apologies for that. I had to shut down our mail server to stopping it trying to deliver mail to the gmail members, as this would allow the gmail system to decay the scoring the gmail had given the server, to allow that score to fall below the threshold so we were not marked as "probably spammers".

As for Gmail members, mail should now be flowing to your mailboxes. Unfortuntely past notifications have been gobbled up never to be seen again. Sorry, nothing I do about that.
Let me know if you're not getting them..... I can see email envelopes being accepted by the gmail server....

Agreed, looks like the gmail server is bouncing them again.
The other probable cause is that someone on ClubCJ with a gmail account has marked these as "spam", so they go to their spam folder perhaps? Unwittingly also making the gmail servers think we're spammers and doing the "right" thing and preventing them reaching the gmail mailboxes. I don't control the internet, i dont control google. I can't do anything, it's their policy. Find a new mail provider or hope that the spam probability score goes down. There is no way of contacting any humans that work on Gmail. My hands are tied on this one. Last thing you could try is any existing ClubCJ emails in your inbox stick them on your whitelist (if such a thing exists in Gmail) or contacts list, both if possible. It might help with the calculation of the trust/spam probability scoring system.

Steve and others... if you can do this.... mark any clubCj emails in your gmail account as "not spam" - it might help low the score...

excerpt:
There are two important factors that, under normal circumstances, help messages arrive in Gmail users' inboxes:

The 'From:' address is listed in the user's Contacts list.
A user clicks 'Not Spam' to alert Gmail that messages sent from that address are solicited.

Delivery

While Gmail works hard to deliver all legitimate mail to a user's inbox, it's possible that some legitimate messages may be marked as spam. Gmail does not accept 'whitelisting' requests from bulk senders, and we can't guarantee that all of your messages will bypass our spam filters. To make sure our users receive all the mail they'd like to, we've provided them with a method for sending us feedback about messages flagged as spam -- users have the option of clicking a 'Not spam' button for each message flagged by our spam filters. We listen to users' reports, and correct problems in order to provide them with the best user experience. As long as our users don't consider your mail as spam, you shouldn't have inbox delivery problems.

There are two important factors that, under normal circumstances, help messages arrive in Gmail users' inboxes:

The 'From:' address is listed in the user's Contacts list.
A user clicks 'Not Spam' to alert Gmail that messages sent from that address are solicited.

If you send both promotional mail and transactional mail relating to your organization, we recommend separating mail by purpose as much as possible. You can do this by:

Using separate email addresses for each function.
Sending mail from different domains and/or IP addresses for each function.

By using these tips, it's more likely that the important transactional mail will be delivered to a user's inbox. Our guidelines are meant to help you build a good reputation within the Gmail system, resulting in continual delivery to Gmail inboxes.

Well that's promising, the trust score will also depend on other CCJers doing the same thing, so again it's a waiting game. :)

*falls off chair* ok, that's a good thing. Looks like the spam score on their servers has decayed enough to trust us again.
I'll check the server mail logs later tonight if I get a chance when on ngihtshift... thanks for the update.
