Back on topic please.

So the way I read it we accept swearing in everyday life but it is still not acceptable in a forum.

People dont find short abbreviation offensive and are ok like FFS WTF LMAO?

We should not accept people replacing letter in a swear word like sh1t, fcuk, c-nt?

I just finished about 6 hours worth of homework on this stuff and I accept that Chris has an opinion on this, and yes, I am young (18) I do rebel against the system, but for one I cannot stand when people are ignorant to language evolving.

What we say and where we say it is what is called register. Ie. you wouldnt say whats crackin to an 80 year old because they wouldnt know/understand what you said.

There is register for a forum. We ask that there is to be no swearing on the forum, to an extent I do agree. But, as language evolves, you have to be able to keep up with it. Examples of this is how you never heard swearing on TV before 10pm 10 years ago, yet in todays society its completely normal to hear the S'word on good news week at 8:30pm. Swearing is becoming more generally accepted in Australian society and we have to keep up with that.

In response to troy, yes, swearing is still often used in text messaging, but for me personally, I like to use full words whenever sending messages like as if I were to say WTF, i would actually word it out.

As I said before, Language is a marker of groups, its reflects our identity. What do the young people what to do? Rebel obviously, no offence but people of your age would of done it when you were my age, but it would of taken shape in different forms.

If are going to police swearing on the forum, what about taboo forms of language?

You're right. It separates the bogans from... everyone else. And it's one of the main things that makes me embarassed to be associated with Australia

If you don't love it, leave it .....

Would you rather live in any of, say 50 assorted countries, where looking sideways would get you either shot, or at best, locked up for an indefinite period ?

All bogans swear. Not all who swear are bogans. Regularly dropping the F and C bombs places you in the latter category.

I reject your (frankly insulting) suggestion that swearing is a part of our national culture. Might as well say that high visibility clothing and manual labour are also members.

Okay guys, now we are a bit off topic here and it is my fault sorry.

Australia is a multicultural society. If you cannot accept that swearing is becoming more evident in todays society and is apart of the 'Australian Identity' and this does not mean, Australian people only, IE bogans which is a generalised term for ALL australians. Italians, Lebonese etc are living in australia because they want to be apart of the Australian Identity, for which swearing is apart of now.

I think im going to shut up now xD

Actually Sam .... I think I'd be safer in Sicily than any of the 50 that came to mind ....

Can't be too embarassing to live in Oz, though .... while you can live in a safe environment, and pull in lots of $$$$.

Me thinks Matt may celebrate his next birthday before he complies that list.

Not to mention he may put it in the Hidden Forum and disregard your inability to access it....
