New Dash Mat - PICS!

Only way to confirm is to see a smashed Lancer, but we don't want to see one of those, as it would be quite upsetting for a lot of people.

re: the pic above and the air bag escape point - yes the top part of the dash is where they've made a cut out in the dash mat I have.

I'm still confused on where the air bag comes out. Does it come out where my lancer monogram is at the top or does it come out below it where that squarish pannel is? When I hit mitsu during the week Im gunna ask them for sure coz if it comes out at at the top where my lancer monogram is I'm gunna ask for a return coz that's downright dangerous if the dash mat is covering the airbag

That looks like its RHD so its on the wrong side but to me it looked like it came out of the top on the passenger side

Looks to me like I am right judging by that picture. Definitely coming out of the top section.

Tadzorz, Mitsubishi will do exactly what I did and look it up in the Workshop manual. And the manual I have is exactly the same as the one they have. But it will be interesting to see what they say.

definitly, ill keep you guys posted on where the airbag actually exits, and if it exits where the dash mat is, im gunna go get a return on my dash mat, or at least get them to re do it, coz thats honastly bullshit if they make a dash mat to cover your airbag and it doesnt have any weakened points for the airbag to inflate.

Yep, an MR too, I was actually meant to test drive that one on the Saturday and this happened on the Tuesday

Yeah I think you were spot on SIR-VRX from seeing that smashed one. I've emailed Haigh and we'll just wait and see what their course of action will be. If we are in fact correct but they refuse to admit it then it shouldn't be hard to get the ACCC to make them recall it....

Whitlam, any chances you can see that lancer again and get pics of where the passenger air bag deployed from??

BTW I'll be removing the dash mat this arvo until I can confirm or deny any of this. It's not worth risking the safety of the passenger (especially when its me in the passengers seat and my younger brother is driving me home from town )

I went to mitsubishi today, and spoke to nick, he said the airbag comes out in that lower square part. But im still not 100% certian. Ima hit up projectlancer and check out their graveyard section, ill see if i can get my hands on some airbag pics there. Keep us posted on the email from Haigh Ryan

I think it comes out from above the glove box because the bluetooth module is located on the dash top piece

i checked out the graveyard on project lancer but couldnt get any distugishing pics of the airbag being deployed.

Unfortunately no that was from about 6 months ago and I didn't take the pics

but looking at that pic it looks like the panel above the glove box may have flipped up to let the airbag out

urgh, im stressin on where this damn airbag is. im 95% certian it comes out the lower part, but you know how car manufactures are.
