How about you... Move here to WA and buy and insure whatever you want? :P

I like S2000's much more than MX5's but I don't know if you're allowed them either...
Both will probably have worse road noise than the lancer though.

(and good for you having enough money for a better car, I wasn't having a go )

A sensible choice would be to wait until you're off your Ps and then get an un-restricted car of your choice.
I've known a couple of people who opt for the non-turbo Supra or S15 and regret it, by either losing money when they change or just having something that goes less than what they imagined.

If you really had to replace the Lancer now, I reckon go around and test drive the cars you want. I know I had cars on my list when I bought the Lancer and they turned out to be less than I expected with my budget.

Well a shot from the dark hit me today, I went to view a type r that was allegedly in immaculate condition to find it with 4 damaged wheels, a ripped seat and a badly scratched body/interior.

Leaving we walked past a renault garage where a Clio caught my attention. Ive bought her! a 2008 Clio sport 197 with 7 thousand on the clock. Immaculate condition :) I should pick her up wednesday.

 Congrats! I was driving behind a new clio the other day (not sure if it was the same version) and it sounded beastly and looked very sporty! They are a cool little car so you will have heaps of fun! :)

I just googled it and I think it was the same one as I saw, you will be very happy with one of those! (I felt pretty stupid sitting next to it at the lights and having this little car totally drown me out and sound so much better!)

Congrats on your new buy.

It's unfortunate that you'll be leaving our family but I guess each of our times will come eventually.

So I picked the new girl up today! The difference is amazing! Its exactly what I wanted, small and nimble and above all bloody quick! The pickup in 6th gear at highway speed is just insane, it would be comparable to the lancer's pickup in 4th at highway speeds!

So without further ado Pics!
