Near collision on the Victor Harbour Road

Postby NoobleXTC » Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:08 pm

Was on the way to Victor Harbour today to try my hand at surfing with some friends and nearly died. Was going 100 (limit) going towards a right corner when this friggin idiot of a truckie comes barreling out of the corner at 100kmh, mind you this is a 75kmh corner so what do i see? He drives into my lane, jerks the wheel and manages to get back into his lane but his tanker loaded with some chemical follows suite and starts skidding in an arch. Luckily because of all the driving i've done in Need for Speed, Gran Turismo, Forza, and Grand Theft Auto I managed to speed up, go into the side of the road and out with the trailer just inches from my door, all this in a blink of an eye. You can say that after that experience, my friend and I went and bought Powerball tickets for tonight lol. Lesson here is, no matter how good a driver or bad a driver you are, there is always someone out there that even worse than you. Oh and don't tell me video games don't teach you nothing!

Interested to hear if anyone's had some similar experiences...

yeah i had one today with a truck too. Going along the road 70kmh truck coming up from a side street going about 50kmh just pulls out into the merge lane and then tried to merge in front of me i had to go over white lines to the other side of the road and then blocked at the lights i went through the orange and he came through about 10 seconds later which id say was red by that time and then over took me in duel lanes.

Typical crazy truck driver who thinks they are king of the road. Had one merge into my lane whilst i was next to it and almost run me off the road. Sped up and went into parking lane and took over him, almost skidded out and once i over took him there was a car in front of the truck who was really close and just braked and i almost hit him. Thank god for ASC :)

The truck driver then proceeded to step out of the vehicle at the red light up ahead and start yelling at me. He knows it was his fault but still kept yelling at me and threatening to hurt me. Ohwell, i just apologised and said he almost hit me because he wasn't looking but he just argued and said that it was my fault because i have to give way to trucks ALWAYS.

Well i think you should give way to trucks to SOME extent but they shouldn't just merge into your lane for no reason while you are next to them o.O

That sounds like a bad experience you had and glad to hear no one was injured.
2 weeks ago i was driving along the M7 in Sydney when someone decided to stop in the right hand lane because they missed the turn off. As a result the commodore ute in front of me was forced to hit the brakes hard, and as a result he lost control and hit the inside barrier and spun around. I had to take evasive action as well and the ABS certainly saved me from hitting the ute.
No one was hurt which is tha main thing i guess.

AS for the truck drivers,i havent had a bad experience with them yet, however it ceases to amaze me how some of the trucks are able to go at least 120kph on the freeways yet they are supposed to be speed limited??

And dont get me started about them hogging the right hand lane as well, just because there truck is 5kph faster than the truck in the left hand lane.

All trucks should be in the left hand lane unless there planning on making a right hand turn.

However on a positive im sure the majority of the truckers do there job well and drive sensibly as well as other drivers,no doubt there in a high pressure job to deliver on time etc. Still no excuse to take short cuts.

i must say i wouldnt bring what you learn from racing games on to the streets. how you drive in racing games stays in racing games. besst thing to do is go and do one of those courses that will help you out on the street big time i know it has because those courses have deffinantly helped me out

Here is my Dad's accident with a semi trailers, trailer that jack knifed in front of him the same as you. Unfortunately for my Dad there was a guard rail on his side of the road so he had know where to go.

Most truck drivers are good but you do come across some of the bad ones. Also the speed limiters on trucks; most dont have them. That is something that is up to the company the driver works for. Trucks in AU are not to drive over 100 but they dont have any speed limiters set on them.

But with trucks going over the speed limit; depending on which company they work for if they are caught its an instant dismissal in some cases (more than 20k over the limit). It brings truck drivers in a bit of a no win situation; time limits and speed. Blow either one and they could lose their job
