No probs, thanks for the info and input about this subject. So basically if I get the car put on the dyno and results show that the AFR is within the proper range, then the engine should be ok without any risk of damage??

I'm sure there would be other lancer owners here that have done a reflash, and have had no dramas with there cars??

I just spoke to Jim from Tunehouse. Basically got quoted $100 for the dyno test (including checking the AFRs) and $200 for every hour thereafter spent tuning. If he can help me get a 'maximum price' idea so I don't end up with a huge bill, I'll consider getting something done there but as it stands, I don't really like the very open-ended pricing.

ps. From here on, I'll post in this thread since it's more relevant > http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?p=163020#163020

So basically if you get the dyno run done, and the AFR is within the range, then basically that's all I need to do if i don't want it dyno tuned.

guys you don't need to be so stressed about the afr's

All the cars I flashed that weekend will be safe have no fears. The reason why we had such a variation in the 2.4 litres is because our tune was done on a vehicle with intake, and rear muffler exhaust. But the cars that were checked on a dyno had extractors fitted, which leaned out the tune, which is why it necessitated to have it checked and retuned.

If your 2.0 / 2.4 does not have headers, our tune is perfectly safe and won't be running lean.

Same goes for the EVO X I did, I have done a large number of these and whilst I do recommend it gets checked at some point, the tune on it won't be dangerous or lean.

The 2.0 guys in all honesty, won't have a problem because those engines are not as sensitive to afr's as are the 2.4 and turbo vehicles. The 2.4 without extractors are also perfectly safe.

But if you do more modifications to the vehicles, then you will definitely need to get the tune checked.

Thanks David.

So the conclusion is we don't need to worry about anything since it's a very safe/conservative tune, and getting it dyno tested/AFR tested is just a suggestion to spot if there's anything wrong.

I'll probably get it tested sometime then.

David- can you also please email me the invoice/original rom file as requested? Thanks mate.

Yeah i agree with jace, if some people just want peace of mind, I guess they can get there car tested on the dyno to make sure the AFR is within the specified range. Don't think I'll bother for now as
My car is pretty much stock, but if I decide to do do future mods like exhaust, intake etc, then definatly I'll put the car on the dyno :)

Maybe we should try and see if any of the vendors want to offer a group discount to do this? Or get Tunehouse on board.

Great idea, I'm sure some people would be keen on doing that :)

It's a bit late I know, but the 2.0l NA's run a touch rich from the factory from what I've seen.

Pointed out by the guy when I did my dyno run stock.

Well thats a bad note i suppose; but i guess with time it does fix up; and even with the tune, I'm not too scared for the car; unless something major happens, but doubtful since car is stock as a rock... well get a tune sooner or later, but for now; Im content with dave clearing it up for us. Thanks again dave.

I thought that would be the case, the tune is fairly conservative I couldnt see it melting our block. The Evo ofcourse would be slightly more sensitive. David aftermarket exhaust and injen intake wouldnt make the tune too unhappy would it?

Same here?
As I have the RPW 4-1 race headers, High flow cat, 2 1/4 exhaust and K&N Apollo CAI and a Stage 1 RPW tune my car should be fine yeah?

I have noticed that sometimes it smells quite fumy (spelling) when at idle.

Is this a sign that I have more room to more with AFR's and a further full dyno tune?

Luke Ive noticed before I did anything to the car it was quite smelly at low speed, I smell it more at reverse obviously as Im traveling back through my exhaust gas. Like I say that was before the tune or any other mods so I wouldnt worry too much

If it is a 2.0 then headers are no problem with the tune, its only the 2.4 models which need to have a specific tune for the headers (Which we are finalising right now).

The tunes are not ultra agressive so they are adaptable to most situations as long as you run 98 RON fuel.
