Dynamat - Important Area's

So, its come to the point where i actually dread going on long drives in my CJ because of the terrible amount of road noise!

Im looking at getting some dynamat put in soon, and i just wanted to confirm if the pack in the link below was sufficient enough to cover all the necessary area's in the car.

Also, anybody that has put dynamat in their car, can you confirm that it made a difference in road noise? is the cabin much nicer noise wise?

I have a bulk pack worth of dynamat in my car already to stop panel vibration and improve the sound of the stereo.

It cuts road noise to an extent but there are large areas of my car that are uncovered. As I said above mine's there to stop panel flex and improve Audio - that being the case I have the front doors (inner and outer skin) fully lined, both sides of the boot and some in the boot lid.

One thing I can tell you is most of the noise comes up through the floor. A bulk pack might cover from the front footwell to the rear seats depending how much coverage you go for.
There are other products that are better for killing road noise, Mass Loaded Vinyl is one such. To kill as much road noise as possible you need to cover the entire floor from the firewall to under the back seats.

If you don't want to go that far, covering the wheel arches and both doors will give some reduction. Bulk pack of dynamat might be enough, but I haven't done it myself so I can't say for sure.

Another fact to note: The factory Advans are NOISY. You can get less road noise by changing to other brands of tires. Tyre shops can help you out here... some brands are just quieter, though Performance tyres are generally on the noisy side.

The factory Advans are crap tyres,performance and noise wise Rick,
I fitted Dunlop tyres and it helped a lot with noise reduction
I concur with the Dynamat it is a great product and another thing I tried on a previous Lancer with a big sound system was a Tar based bitumen Sound deadener,I applied with a brush to every nook and cranny I could physically get to,I believe it can be sprayed in too with the right equipment. It helped heaps with panel vibration and road noise,although its messy to use.

My whole car is covered in damplifier pro (Dynamat equivalent).

As Rick and Chris mentioned, your road noise is because of your tyres NOT the insulation.

If you want to dynamat, might I suggest the roof of the car. Makes a real difference in rain. You won't feel like you're driving a tin can anymore.

If you do the doors they will close like a European car.
And if you do the floors, they seem more assured when you step into the car.

But nothing you can do will reduce the tyre noise except changing your tyres.

im looking at getting new 18" rims soon anyway so i think i might go with a set of pirelli or bridgestone tyres.

So changing the tyres will reduce most of the road noise?

can you recommend a few other 'quiet' tyres?

Indeed, my front doors close solidly with all the Dynamat in them. Can hear then difference if you tap on them and then the back ones as well.

I get a lot less sound through my front doors too. (Well, except the sound from my speakers.)
