How can I find the speed sensor wire?

Postby Vrx-Daz » Sat Jul 31, 2010 12:35 pm

Hi all,
I am current in progress of installing pioneer avic-f20bt and have also stupidly cut the plugs of the existing mmcs loom, here lies my trouble I need to hook up the speed sensor wire but now have shot myself in the foot because I cannot match the wire up to the diagrams I have, I can narrow it down to 3/4 wires but have no certainty which one it is... Someone please help?!?!

just dont put it in, it will most likly be something that stops you from doing something wile its on, so i wouldn't bother unless it wont work without it

It's a blue wire with a white stripe in it. It's on the 3rd plug which is only used in the MMCS (ie, the CD players have this plug taped up out of the way).

The AVIC will still work fine without it though, only may experience some issues in tunnels....

Also with the parking brake wire I would just connect it to ground rather than hook it upto the parking brake if I were you...

In previous Australian released AVICs the control of video is done only via the parking brake wire. They used the VSS signal to keep tracking along the screen at the correct speed when you go through tunnels.

No offence but by the sounds of all these questions I'm not sure you should be the one installing an expensive head unit like this.

You should have just bought a mit02 off eBay and it sold have plugged straight in without the need to cut any wires and it would have done all your speed sense and hand brake wires as well.

Yeah it was a mistake to cut the plugs, rookie mistake but s*** happens, why not have a challenge right? I have installed at least 10 different systems so I'm more than capable. I already figured out that the handbrake wire only required a ground so why switch it right :o.
I have everything operational incuding my 2 new 12" dual coil's. Much impressed with the sharp crisp graphics and smoothness of the unit.
Definitely worth the money.
But I will look the the blue wire with the stripe that is one of the few I could source where they came from. I was thinking the speed sensor could come from the speedo?

Nope, all info is transferred to the dash cluster via the CAN-bus. Their is no speed signal going to the cluster, but there is already the one in the loom for the MMCS, whether or not it's input is suitable for the AVIC I wouldn't know though, I imagine its just a pulse count though.
