RDREDRALLIART is no more.
Don't you hate those "I'll just do this" decisions you sometimes make in life.
Had just gave a the Ralliart a good bath (after a few days of rain) followed by a detail, car looking really sharp & as I don't get to drive her often said to the wife " going for a quick squirt round the block , back in five".
got onto Mundijong road to drop back onto freeway south(as we are in Baldivis) as I got to near on the line at the lights to swing around to the right ono the freeway on ramp the light turned orange(toolate to stop)and looking ahead to the other traffic, it seemed to be all good, WRONG, next thing I know there was this blue car(Mazda 3) ploughing into the passenger side.
Major impact. I did not go any further forward but got shutted across two lanes & into the guard rail.
All air bags went off (thank F...) Cannot even begin to discribe damage to the RA, door opened up like a sardine can, impact caused roof to crease, drivers side front wheel torn away thru impact on curb...
Mazda 3 about a metre &1/2 shorter than it used to be.
Felt really sorry for the 12 year old girl in the passenger seat of the Mazda, she was pretty upset & shocked by it all.
Now the fact is I am from old school cars & luv them but if it was not for Modern tech in cars these days might have been a different story for all involved. I do not have photos as it was a spur of the moment decision I left phone & wallet at home.

Condolence on the RA but I'm glad I don't have to say that in reference to a person. It's nice to know how far safety has gone through the decades, plus the fact that you don't have to own an expensive car to experience 5-star protection.

AAARRRGGGHHHH,.... ROSS, SOOOO Sorry to hear that.
Great to see U R OK. I remember the day u bought it in to RPW for David to tune.
Did U have a green turn arrow that went yellow as U approached??? If U did that means the other guy ran the red light and no excuse for that.
Keep us posted on developments please.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support.
Not about to point blame at anyone(including myself) as it maybe one of those situations where we were both committed, I guess its now up to the police to decide. I'm feeling a little stiff & sore this morning, mainly shins copped a bit of a battering, right shoulder a bit tender & my nose got a battering from the air bag. It is now the hassle of it all as my wife uses it for work & as she works on Garden Island & starts at 6am public trans is out of the question. At least we've still got our trip to K.L to look forward to at the end of the week.

Exactly how #1 went.. Going by what you have said, if you were already in the intersection before it went red then that Mazda is in the wrong and for your doors to do that Mazda must have been travelling at some speed. Were there any other cars at the intersection either slowing down in other lanes at the lights or turning?
From what you have said, it looks like the Mazda driver has seen cars slowing down at the intersection and has thought 'by the time I get there my lights be green I aint slowing down' and bang your car is taken out. The only time cars can still be in an intersection after a red light is if they are finishing up a turn and if there are cars doing that, all other traffic flow cant be in the intersection until it is clear regardless of who has the green light or not.
Its a technicality the police and my insurance company went on when #1 was written off as the other drivers insurance company was refusing liability on my car even though the other driver was charged with speeding, running a red light and wreckless driving.
As long as you have insurance everything will work out fine.

Hey Tim. As per what U have stated if the other driver was charged with all that then his insurance company shouldnt have had a legal leg to stand on as far as reimbursing your insurance company for your car. Can u tell us all what company that was so we can avoid them??

OMG Ross, so sorry to hear about your car I know she was your pride & joy.
Of course like everyone else has said, thankfully you are still here to tell the tale, as a car can be replaced, you cannot. It's just a bonus that the RA we love so much also comes with 5 star safety - something that clearly did it's job in this case!
Hope all goes well with your insurance claim, and to hear you're back on the road in a shiny new RA soon.
K.L will be a welcome distraction for you at least! Keep us posted.
Cheers, Laura
