New Car for ~$25K, any suggestions?

Postby ash06 » Fri May 21, 2010 8:02 pm

Looking at getting a new car for my sister who's on her red P's atm
BUDGET: $25K

EXTRA INFO: Don't mind getting a base model car & adding options (ie; what i learnt with my ES!)
Looking at getting something i'd also like to drive when i'm not in the Lancer (as a male)

ON THE LIST SO FAR:
Suzuki Swift RE4
VW Polo Trendline 3 Door

*PLEASE no MICRA's!! :P
P.S: Yes i've tried to convince another lancer into the family but no luck.

all thoughts are welcome :)

No other sporty looking coupe's in the market at the moment. This is what I would get if i was looking for a NA car.

i test drove a Kia Serento and for a brand new car had 1k (not 1000ks) on the clock and the steering wheel was off centre and and the seat squeaked like i was sitting on a million mice.

but that kia is a nice looking car.

The Focus is a nice car (for a ford)

Hyundai i30 ( seriously dont knock one till you drive one, its a very nice car to drive)

or even the Golf.

but have a look here http://www.discountnewcars.com.au/searc ... 0&segment=

If you're going for a Focus, get a Fiesta.

My sister drives one. Even though it's smaller than a Focus.
It feels much better.

I went to test drive a Fiesta.
There was no automatic available so I was going to test drive a Focus. But as soon as I got in I left. It just didn't feel good enough.

Fiesta did feel much better

If I ever get a Focus, it'll be second hand.

i30 is a nice car. Cerato Koup gets nice reviews these days.
There's also Holden Cruze.

Golf is way more than 25k I think.

The new Polo is very nice. I wanna test drive one.

Honestly, I'm Korean. I'm not going to own any Korean cars from now on.
I'm not saying they're bad. They're getting better. Lancers have flaws too.

It's just that when they get better. Other companies get better.
By the time I earn good money. I'll be driving a BMW.

That was not necessary but anyway lol
Lancer -> Accord Euro -> M3

You can get a Daewoo Kalos......ummmmm I mean Holden Barina - and you can put a Chevy badge on it like some of the people up here have done to take the p*ss out of all the Chevy Commonwhore owners (even got em on v6's - wtf???)

cue the "Holden mean a great deal to the American taxpayers" ads

Edit: Ben, did you mean the Cerrato or Sorrento??? The Sorrento are still the old generation ones that have huge probs all round. The new Cerrato is designed in Europe like the I30 and built in Korea. Huge difference. They certainly look nicer than the Corolla hatchs.

All I can say is it is really hard getting a new car with a 5 star crash rating for under 25K.

Stick with a lancer. Safe , reliable, great warranty.

The more she looks the more she will realise what great value for money the Lancers are!

best value for money is the activ i bought mine about 2 months ago and basically the choice came down to the focus or the lancer and the activ makes the focus look like the flinstones car.

I'd have to agree with Troy on this one
Stick with the Lancer for quality, inclusions and safety factor
You would be hard pressed to match the Active for the price bracket :D

There are so many choices you can choose from with 25K, it's amazing - and seeing as we all say Lancer - I won't include it.

Also, manual or auto? Auto would make it a little more difficult :P

It's late :P I'll post myviews later after you answer the above question :).

Thanks for all the input! Please, keep them coming! :)
you've just made our decision much harder :P
We just came back from a suzuki dealer to test drive a Swift RE4
Not after the sport as we're looking for an auto

Also saw the Mitsu dealership across the road, damn our cars look hot!!?

the suggestions are great, i think we have a lot more research to do & dealerships to visit, this; & the upcoming weekend

ADDED TO LIST:

Kia Cerato
Ford Focus
Ford Fiesta
Subaru Impreza Hatch

Appreciate all the info :)
