i just dont have a key that has a flat battery

any idea incase IT does turn off?

I took the battery out of my spare fob, took it and the battery with me. If I needed it, I would've just popped the battery in and away I go. Didn't need it though.

Yeah, i remember i was showing off the smart key to my uncle and he asked what would happen if the key was taken away whilst the car was still on, and it doesn't turn off or anything.

Faulty smart key replaced under warranty.
2 working keys. Feedback from dealer service..."first of its kind they have had"
Hopefully noone has this this type of failure when out in the bush!

New smart key exit unexpected feature:

I drive with lights on. I rely on the auto off function when i park and turn the car off. Normally when you stop the engine, and then open the car door, the headlights turn off after a second or so.

A couple of days ago, I got out of the car with engine running, I was able to turn the car off and close the door fast enough (and lock) for the headlights to stay on.

I would not class this as a flaw, just not what I was expecting.....

Geez you must've been quick to get out and shut the door! My lights turn off in about 1 second after the door is opened!

Going by that logic, you could lock yourself inside your car with the key, and if someone was trying to attack you, and they could just unlock the door from the outside and eat your brains.

Hey, for you guys who don't have a smart key, trust me there are plenty of perks of having such a device. When i first bought my car, i thought it was more of a marketing gimmick, but when you slowly get used to it, you do notice its advantages.

I normally have my smart key separate from the rest of my keys and it constantly stays in my work pants. So you can really do things such as get in your car and open your boot, start your car without even having to reach inside your pocket.

At the end of the day, i like my smart key. Its not perfect, but i think it is one of those things that you do learn to love and appreciate.

I just really like being able to press the button on the car to lock because I'm not a fan of pressing the remote key. It's satisfying being able to unlock the car as well by just touching it, and always being able to open the boot by just pressing the release button without fumbling around my pocket for the key.

i was told by the dealer that the ca would stop if the fob wasn't in the car when u were driving it...go figure they could have lied

Nah it never stops. Once the car is running (ignition on), removing the key has no effect apart from that annoying beep outside the car (which is annoying if you are trying to take photos with the car running).

Ok - I know this is an old...OLD thread...but just thought I'd note that in my MY09 VRX, if the smart key gets shut in the boot, the car beeps like a maniac and unlocks all the doors...so can't lock the smart key in the boot

Also a nice feature, the car will tell u when the smartkey battery is getting low and needs replacing.
