Newbie from Darwin that modifies headlights

Postby EvoXenoN » Mon Apr 19, 2010 3:03 am

Gday guys,

Im new to the scene. Thought id see whats happening in the world of CJ Lancers. Didnt know this forum existed until I was searching google for custom headlights.

Oh yeah, I modify headlights in my spare time. You can mostly find me on other forums:
- EvoOz: EvoXenoN
- EvoM: iEvoVII
- EvoXForums: EvoXenoN

Im also on the forum: HIDPlanet, broadening my knowledge on HID lighting. I love reading about the different types of HID projectors for retrofits and shrouds that cover up projectors.
- I hate ppl that run stupid Kelvin rated bulbs (6500K+)... OEM is the best (4300K)
- I hate ppl that put HID lighting into Halogen based reflector housings... Glare is annoying.

I will post up a thread on a set I finished for a mate with an Evo X in Alice Springs.

I look forward to contributing to the CJ community with regards to headlights and lighting. Hopefully, you's can help me out with my queries

Talk to you's soon,
Stevo

Whys that?
I have some, wouldn't buy them again cos its not worth the money but I still like them.

May as well put your image here too, you can direct people to your thread when you make it:

That looks really impressive btw. Sounds like its just a hobby?
Do you black out most of the headlight and mod/replace the reflector for HID use?

Edit: Headlight mods really interest me, especially because of the rarity and individuality...

Just a heads up.... Lots of shitty HID kits in headlights here, no real retrofits nor do people listen when you tell them not to do it unless it's in proper projectors... I've been preaching it for years LOL

Welcome mate

As most ppl are aware but couldnt care less, the higher the Kelvin rating, the bluer / violet the colour, producing less LUMENS (brightness) from the bulb. 4300K is the brightest, thats why ALL car manufacturers use this for both Halogen and HID setups. Lumens will slowly diminish as you move away from 4300K.
Violet is the shortest wavelength colour visible to the human eye. Anything shorter becomes Ultraviolet. Try driving with Ultraviolet lights

hahaha. So long as youre aware of the negative affects then the choice is yours

Thanks mate. Come to think of it, I think I can recall your username and aviatar. If you think weap0n's were awsome, you should see this next set thats in line.

ALL halogen HLs should be interachangable between the Lancer / Evo range. The modded MR HLs you see above were actually plug n play into my mates Evo X GSR. I would asume MR HLs are plug n play into:
- Ralliart's
- VRX's &
- GTS's

I used MR HLs and mod them. I really dont want to be converting halogen HLs with retrofitted HID projectors.

The rear housing from a Halogen HL is different to that of a HID one

Halogen rear (low beam area):

HID rear (low beam area):

You can see that the HID rear housing protrudes out further so that it can encase the whole projector within the HL. The Halogen rear housing on the other hand is just flat. If you retrofit a projector in the low beam housing, it is going to stick out. You will then have to fabricate a housing around the projector so that it is wholey within the HL.
Not somethinge I wish to do.

i do recall someone making a set of HID on another forum. i dont know if that was your or someone else, but i belive it took that person about 4-5 months. just to get part finished.
How long is expected for your custom headlights to take shape and be ready for fitting?
