Recommended Consumables

I've been trawling through the posts looking for car consumables that are recommended by members. It was a time consuming job, so I thought I would do a summary so it is easier for new members. Thanks to the members who have posted.
Much thanks to Sir-VRX - Tech Master. I have a definite bias towards his recommendations.

Occasionally group buys are arranged through Ofey - Bargaining master to help members save.

Many how to instructions may be found in posts by LZY_EYE or tadz0rz. Alternatively for those more independent minded, refer to the Official CJ workshop manual.

Please modify or update as you see fit. Making it a sticky topic might be helpful.

Engine Oil:

Brands: Penrite (Aussie), Nulon (Aussie) and Castrol edge (affordable)
Synthetic fuels are superior to blends and straight mineral.

0w-40, 5w-30, 5w-40 - Fuel economy, performance, pricey
10w-30, 10w-40 - V.G protection, affordable
15w-50 - Excellent protection, ambient temp > 40C

*remember to change the sump plug washer each time you change the
oil for peace of mind. It's very cheap too, even O.E.M.


Oil filter: Ryco Z411 (cheapest and good quality), K&N HP 1010 (easy removal, expensive ~ $21) and O.E.M

Spark plug: NGK laser iridium FR6E1-11 or IX

Brake fluid: Motul Dot 4 or PBR Dot 4

Coolant: Genuine (Dia Queen SLLC)
Coolant flush: Genuine

Air filter: O.E.M (fuel efficient), K&N (reuseable, v.slight HP gain and oil coated), Blitz (cheaper & good quality)

Headlights: Narva arctic blue (excellent value, good quality) or Philips (more expensive, some more blue e.g. diamond/blue, more bright e.g. extreme power).
6000k quality HIDs with excellent cutoff. It is however illegal

Brake pads: EBC green stuff
Rotors: DBA slotted

Tyres:
I'm sticking with stock VR wheels (16") so good tyres are:
Toyo proxies 4 (good price and long life)
Michelin energy (excellent fuel economy)

18":

well also for headlights piaa bulbs are good as well white and very bright and use existing wattage..... but a lil dear in the price range tho.... but i rkn its worth it....

My headlights have handled the heat from HID's for almost a year now with no negative side effects that I've noticed.

Except for the brightness for other road users.. but most of the time it isn't too bad.

Not that we condone using HIDs but can anyone suggest some good brands <$400? =D

For tyres i would suggest bridgestone. they are made for aussie roads more so than other brands. I think the GIII's were excellent on my last car-superceded by RE-001's now.
The RE-592's are very good, dual compound rubber, good wear and quiet ride. Not too bad on grip either, even when down to the markers.

Not to bring up an old thread but for the K&N air filter itself, what code should i be looking for for a 2009 Lancer ES?

Will this be fine?

Oil: always use a synthetic on a high-revving engine (like ours) - currently have Mobil 1 gold and a Mobil 1 oil filter (imported) for the car's first service - fifty buck more for the oil spread over 15000KM is only a few cents extra a day...

Air filter: hard to go past K&N...

Mobil 1
HKS air filter (easy maintance. Remove rinse under water and fit. Tho every so often i sock it in some dishwashing liquid to break down the dirt.
