Not sure what to get.

I'm in the phase of deciding what car to buy, but im stuck on so many different things.
Not being very mechanically minded and having little to no idea about customising cars does not help.

Im looking to spend between 15-20k on the car (cheaper if possible to have cash for mods) but I have no idea which tier to buy.

I absolutely LOVE the evo X front bumper, and despite reading through a few threads, I cannot seem to find information on where and how i would go about getting one to fit a CJ. (I dont want a full Evo kit, just the front bumper)

That being said, if i get a Evo style front, will it suit the factory skirts (such as those on a VR) or will i have to change those to get a fluid look to them.

Sorry about asking so many questions, but I guess I have to learn somehow. Cheers.

A friend of mine just bought an '08 VR for $14,000 with 50,000Km's on the odo...

(you could buy an '08 VRX with a few more k's for a grand or two more, once you hit the '09 VRX's the price goes up because they have the 2.4L engine, <2009 has the 2.0L)

so that +

paint and fitment cost at a panelbeaters if you're really not keen to have a go.

= the car you want for around $15/16,000

hope this helps

Cheers schumie. But those are full kits. Any idea where I can just get a front bumper to suit?

but as you said, if you get the front bumper without the skirts, it will look a bit naff...

but you can buy the bits separately from the same website..

Are there any specific interior parts you're after as well other than the bumper? or does the presentation have more priority?

VR's have side skirts already. Pretty sure the evo's are the same or very similar.

It'll more be a question of if it looks weird without the rear bumper. I think theres a few members on here with evo bumpers, idk if they did the rest as well.

^^^

this is true, there will be an overhang of the front bumper to the skirt of about 5cm though

the VR/VRX skirts are slightly different to the EVO ones but look about the same size

at the end of the day its all up to you.

Yeah, Dad drives a VR and it does come with skirts.

@Metalstrix: For now I'm more intrested in the exterior, once I Know what I want and get that done I'll be keen on doing some interior work.

@Dire: In the long run, I would probably put the rear on and get the dual exhaust, but As much as i love the look, whats having an Evo that isnt an Evo.

@Schumie: Will that overhang still be a issue with a front bumper made for the CJ?

Rainbow Pen in Facebook makes all sorts of kits for the CJ. They are based in Malaysia though. Pictures look promising, but I don't know if anyone around here has bought from them.

I reckon that you can get a VRX with your budget, but if you're going for that trim, make sure that the engine is the 2.4 and not the 2.0 of earlier models. If you're happy with the base motor, then just get an ES or VR and dress it up.

Kevin (Chunky9) bought from Rainbow Pen. It was only the diffuser though I think. He wasn't impressed.

I bought a my08 VR for 10.5 and threw in my old Magna. 80k on the clock and very stock but in good nick. There's nothing wrong with a Vr few bits and pieces and away you go. If you have 7 or 8 k to spend on it, it's going to be a good car when yr finished
