Gear stick vrx

Postby Leyo » Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:41 am

So this is a really random question, I'm wondering if the gear stick in the 2008 vrx can unscrew, I might just be weak, but I also don't want to break it by trying to hard.

Gear stick or gear knob?
Yes the OEM manual gear knob does unscrew , turn it left to undo.
However . if it is an aftermarket knob it may have three tiny grub screws around the bottom edge you need to loosen then pull straight up.

The stock VRX shift knob can definitely unscrew as Awood said.

Just hijacking the topic slightly, my leather gear knob has worn down to hell and back, does anyone have suggestions for any aftermarket knobs they've used?
I'd love something as similar to the Evo knob but they go for close to $200 online, so wanted to get some others' ideas.

The gear stick is mounted under the centre console and is usually fairly sturdy
However
The centre console comes out fairly easily

The gear knob in the manual will unscrew
In some of the CVT the gear knob will unscrew and some of the CVT the gear knob need to unclip and lift up
There was a document explaining the CVT removal on this forum sometime ago

When I had my wife's vrx I ordered an oem polished alloy gear knob from the U.S looked mint. Saved heaps of dollars over buying it here too.

Mine is some Silver looking aftermarket knob that seems to comee loose? I can't seem to find any screws except one right at the top looks like needs all Allen key and then it's just a small screw that is supposed to grip the shaft? So is currently completely loose.....

It may have been over tighten a few times and now the threads are stuffed
It could be the gear knob itself is stuffed
Know anyone else with a lancer near by you can swap the gear knob with to test ?
Got a wrecker near by you can test with ?
